One Second After
One Second After is a great story that takes place in a small community in North Carolina (Black Mountains). The story starts off in present day America with everything being normal, but after the EMP goes off the story begins to take a turn and so does America back towards the dark ages. The story is told through the eyes of John Matherson an ex-military colonel who has read about the dangers of an EMP while in the army. This knowledge proves very useful to him in the story and keeps him aware of the current situation he has been thrust into.
I would have to rate this book 4 stars because while it wasn’t one of the greatest stories I’ve ever read, the story still kept me intrigued throughout the entire story. Some things the author did well on in the story is maintaining focus on the reader, keeping the reader guessing, and doing a good job of developing the situation so it’s easy to grasp. The main flaws in the story would have to be the consistent grammatical errors which seem to have not only slipped by the author, but managed to slip by the editor also (the author often uses the word “of” instead of “have” and vice versa). I would recommend this book to anyone that is looking for a good read and isn’t afraid of having their own morals changed. The most appropriate age group for this book would have to be ages 18-48.
