January 2014 - Horror: Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon
This thread is now open for discussion!

I've read one of his before this, Mystery Walk, which was OK. I also have Speaks The Nightbird on audio that I will get to at some point in my life (one hopes), but I'm looking forward to Swan Song, since so many people compare it to The Stand.

I'm looking forward to this one.

I'm looking forward to this one."
I'm sure that's true. McCammon is very different from King. I can tell that just by the one book that I've read of his.
I think the comparison is more regarding 1) the size and 2) the fact that it's a post-apocalyptic horror story.
I'm looking forward to it too. :)
AND OMG READ THE STAND!!

I finished Steelheart, and I'm halfway through the Narnia. If I knock out The Book quickly, I'll feel really good about having 3/4 done. That'll give me confidence to start this door stopper. Hehe

Jackie, I definitely plan on reading King's Desperation, Regulators, and Hearts in Atlantis this year. Have you read any of them? Maybe we can do a buddy read?

Oops, gotcha. Thanks. :)

Swan Song started out with a bunch of "headers" for chapter one, which is what made me think of GRRM. He usually tells you which POV you're getting in that section too.

How quickly we forget that we were once the invader here.

So far, I'm liking this, but I'm only 3% in, so it's a little early to tell. ;)

I've also come to realize, after seeing all of the comparisons to The Stand, that I really don't remember The Stand... Then again, it has been about 25 years since I read it.

Just curious, how far along are you in the book?

But I agree... he's definitely... interesting.
I'm liking Josh too, though I have always had a thing for big loveable bearlike guys, so that's kind of to be expected. The way the reader does his voice doesn't hurt either. It's perfect to me.
Swan... likes gardens.

I'm on chapter 16 now (16%). Liking it quite a bit so far. Might be because I'm just coming off of reading The Book which wasn't so great.. But it's got me wanting to pick it up and stay up later than I should reading it. That's always a good sign!

Can't say anything and nobody will come back and check the spoilers when they catch up.
So yeah. It's cool. I'm getting a bit of that feeling I should be on something else by now, but it's compelling enough to keep me from starting something.

Please remember to mark any spoilers by using the spoiler tag -- type < spoiler> your spoiler here < /spoiler>, without the spaces. Posts containing unmarked spoilers may be deleted.
Discussion begins on Jan 1st so we'll unlock this thread closer to the time; for now, this is just a heads up so any of you who need to get a copy can do so. :)
