Exploring Anthony Trollope discussion

Exploring Anthony Trollope is about the journey. Some will want to read only a few of his novels, others will want to read most or all of them. And then there are the short stories and non-fiction ...

Many of the books are quite lengthy. The thought is that there will be no group reads and that you can proceed at your own pace. The discussion thread for each book will undoubtedly contain spoilers - so beware.

You are more than welcome to have buddy reads and there is a section specifically for that purpose.

Coincidentally, 2014 was going to be my year of reading the Barsetshire novels so I'm in!

Thanks for the invite, Elizabeth. I have some books by Trollope loaded on my kindle, but I have yet to start any of them. When I do though, I would love to share here with others who have read these books. I have heard nothing but good things about this author.

I just finished my first Trollope book (Can You Forgive Her?) and was quite impressed. I intend to keep reading his books and thought this might be a fun place to do it. :)

I managed to get through my entire life without knowing about Trollope, until I read a racy memoir by June Juska in which she calls him her favorite author. I was curious, and found his books as downloads on Project Gutenberg. I read all of the Barsetshire novels at the end of last year, and immediately started the Palliser series this year. These books have kept me sane through the bad case of winter blues I have this year.

I'm on The Duke's Children now. I confess I don't have any reviews yet. After being on Goodreads for over a year, I finally had the time (snow days) to actually start getting into it, so I haven't gotten further than putting in books I've read.

I try to write something about every book, but sometimes "something" is only a sentence or two. I've done better of late, and it's certainly easier to write a bit more about books I enjoyed.

I'd just like to repeat what is said in my first post here - when discussing a book, spoilers are likely. Please, do not feel constrained in your discussions. I'll add what I didn't know when I made that post: the introductions in the first post for each book, while describing the book, do not contain information about the book that will not be learned by the reader in the first chapter or two. However, if you prefer not to know anything about the book before reading it, you may wish to skip these.

My first post here. Just into the final few pages of 'The Last Chronicle', and I cannot bring myself to finish the book. I've read the previous five, and I just can't 'let go' of my old friends (and a few not-so-friendly folk too). I'll feel bereft as I finish the last page. Wonderful writing.

I am also new to this group and this is my first post. I am in my 60s and just recently discovered Trollope again. I had read one of his book decades ago. I can’t even remember which one. I am listening to Barchester Towers and am enjoying it very much!

Hi everyone. I'm Paul. I just finished The Warden and have gone straight into Barchester Towers. I've been through most of Dickens and dabbled around in other Victorian lit (Austen, Brontes, Gaskell, Hardy, etc.) but this is my first time reading Trollope. I'm really enjoying it so far, and am hoping to get through Barsetshire and Palliser this year.
