Greetings,

I'm not sure which would be considered the correct original year of publication for this collection, so I thought I'd bring it up here instead of hastily making any changes.

In the postscipt of this edition, the editor notes that "between 1935 and 1937 Shocken Verlag published the first German edition of Kafka's collected writings. [Then], in 1946 Schocken Books reissued this German-language edition". However, on the copyright page, it says "first published in 1971 by Shocken Books Inc." So, which would be the correct date to use for this anthology?

It is possible that the collected writings and the complete writings have different content, and that the complete one was first published in 1971. Or, it's possible that the 1971 date refers to the first publication of this particular English translation.

Yes, I'm not at all sure what the original German edition contained. In you opinion then, would it be correct to change the current original publication date from 1946 (the year of the Shocken German reissue) to 1971?
