So I'm not sure if this is just me, but I always find myself wanting to change my story because I don't think it's strong enough or that it's too similar to another book.

So does anyone else do this a lot? I'm always re-starting my story over and over again.

Alice (alice20) Hmmm... That's an interesting question Cindy...
I don't think I've ever changed my story because I think it's too unoriginal. If it gets too boring, maybe I add something to spice it up a bit, but I don't think I've also ever actually completely changed the basic storyline of a story. If I stop getting interested in what I'm writing, I usually just start a new one.

Yeah. I always change it because I don't know how my world should be. My story is dystopian, so yeah. I'm finding the whole building part the hardest :/ right now I'm just making sorta a outline but its filled of notes about the society I'm making and yeah.

Roxanne Shriver (roxannexshriver) I usually go long periods of time where I keep everything basically the same, and then I hit a period where I change as much as I can think of.

Bobby Nelson | 5 comments My writing practice is similar to Roxanne in this way.

Currently working on my first piece of long form fiction and I gave it a pretty detailed outline starting out.

Now that I'm banging out the rough draft, I've noticed that there's too much of a divide between sections of the narrative...so I'm now making some changes that will blend the book together.

For instance, I've got one character who shows up half way through the story, is an important part of the story...then he disappears before the story's conclusion. I've now decided that this person's role in the story ought to be blended with what's going on in the final act.

I hope that makes sense.
