"I did it because money" (I did it because of money)
Sort of like the way the word that can be left out of a sentence, but is understood to be be there....
"The reason I did it is (that) I thought I should"

You see what I mean? With the expression "because money" we don't really know the reason. With "that" we know and we can understand because the whole sentence is there. "Because" is a little iffy (or whetherly).
But I love all this anyway because poet and writer!
