La_mariane I managed to ascend Pike's Peak in 2013, and I'll try to do it again this year! I'm determined and my climbing gear is out and ready for me to use.

Welcome back! I'm sure you'll make it back to the top!

La_mariane I've read my first novel for this challenge : La Fille de son père. Utterly forgetable book.

But good to have it out of the way!

La_mariane I finally read a second book for this challenge : Don Juan by Molière. I loved it, and I'd love to see this in a theatre.

La_mariane I am so very late this year! Still, I'm reading : I finished a book with two stories by F. Scott Fitzgerald today : The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Diamond as Big as the Ritz. They were an easy read, and quite satirical in tone. You can really feel the author's fascination with wealth, wich is not my afourite theme.

La_mariane I still haven't read any new books for this challenge but I bought two new ones yesterday... Counterproductive, I know.

Karen I wish I could say I only bought two books while not tackling my backlog. Thanks to Amazon's Daily Deals and that oh-so-easy 1-Click purchase button, I think I bought two books per day for the first half of this week *hides face*

At least we will not run out of options of things to read!

I know the temptation of on-line buying :)

And I was saving my "allotment" of new books for a massive second-hand books fair : I live near a "village of the books". There are whole streets devoted to the "book industry" : bookshops, bookbinders, ... The first Sunday of every months, there is a bookfair, and I'm planing on going soon. I'll probably leave with 20 or 25 new books...

Karen That. Sounds. Awesome.

I think I felt an actual pang of jealousy, somewhere on my left side ;)

I live in the Caribbean, and while there are one or two good second hand book stores with a nice variety, most of the local chains will focus on the more popular and recent titles. I tend to make a point of finding a good bookstore when I travel. Otherwise e-books are my solution for fulfilling my more eclectic tastes :)

La_mariane Well, the Caribbean doesn't sound bad :)

I live in France, in a rather rural area. They created a few "villages of books" because those villages where slowly dying and they wanted to create economic activity. It mostly worked, but the current economic difficulties have struck there too, and a few shops were closed. It's still great.

Karen It has its perks. I have been to France, but only visited Paris. I think I would love to visit one of those villages (although while I was pleasantly surprised to be able remember enough French to move around, I doubt I could read a novel!)

Paris is great to visit (I lived there for a few years but it was not so great and incredibly expensive). I remember buying books in English at the W. H. Smith shop near the Louvre castle. There was also a used English book shop in the Quartier Latin (and there was an Oriental bakery near it too).

La_mariane Only the fourth book for this challenge : Knock ou le triomphe de la médecine b Jules Romains. Short and funny play about medecine and doctors.
