Rebecca (rebeccasg) Just got this one on my kindle for 99 cents! I had no idea this one was so short. Can't wait to read it.

Trevor If you want a free kindle (or other version) try Project Gutenberg: http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

Tony Talbot | 9 comments My favourite Holmes story, it's also the first one I read.

I liked it. Doyle has a readable style that I enjoy.

Heather L (wordtrix) Started it this afternoon. It's a good weekend for burrowing in and reading. :-\

Trevor Started it yesterday afternoon, it's only the second Sherlock Holmes book that I have read, but it's an easy read for a summer weekend.

Lidiana Hello everybody!

After a long time without being able to participate in the group (or Goodreads at all) I'm happy to see that I can come back with the group reading exactly what I selected for starting the year!

Trevor Finished it earlier this week, and would give it 3 out of 5, my short review is:

Ken W I'm not joining in on this one as one of my 2014 reading goals is to read the complete Sherlock Holmes collection in order. This one is somewhere in the middle.

Heather L (wordtrix) Finished it tonight--a true masterpiece in detective fiction!

@Kenneth - reading them in order is an interesting experience. You can tell by the end that Doyle is utterly bored and Holmes's deductions become almost ridiculous. They're still worth reading though.

Ken W Thanks, Tony. I'll keep that in mind.

I started reading Sherlock Holmes canon last year. There are "The Valley of Fear", "His Last Vow" and "The Casebook" left for me. I don't want to finish them very soon. I love these stories so much that somehow I want them to go on forever.

By the way, are you reading them in order of publication or chronologically? I want to get the same feeling as those readers when the books were first published, so I read them in usual order. I intend to re-read them chronologically too.

Heidi (heidi_ark) | 25 comments I'm almost finished reading "A Study in Scarlet" (SO GOOD!!) then I'll start "The Hound of the Baskervilles". Has anyone seen "Sherlock" on Masterpiece Mystery? It's awesome!

Is that the Benedict Cumberbatch Sherlock? I've never seen them - to me the definitive SH is Jeremy Brett!

The Benedict Cumberbatch/Martin Freeman Sherlock is outstanding. Definitely check it out, Tony.

Heidi (heidi_ark) | 25 comments Yes Tony, that's the one. It's SH set in modern times. I really like the transition.

A Study in Scarlet was my favorite. I read The Hound of the Baskervilles first and did appreciate it as much as I did after reading a Study in Scarlet and other stories leading up to it.

Although I do not much care for "Elementary" (other than the names, nothing really seems that familiar) I love PBS' Sherlock! I love that it is based on the original stories with a modern twist!

Lidiana I finished the book, and during my whole reading I felt as if I was listening to Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. The Sherlock Holmes on the cover of my book should be substituted by a Cumberbatch's picture. I think that comes to show how good the tv show is.

Now, as to the story, I gave a four out of five. Arthur Conan Doyle mastered the art of dectetives stories; however I had so many expectations as to the story (my brother is a fan and insisted with me to read it since I was a child) that I could not help but feel a little bit let down by it in the end.

Jonathan Terrington (thewritestuff) The Hound of The Baskervilles is interesting in that it was written after Holmes was killed off, yet was set before he 'died' and was only written due to popular demand. For an interesting look at the mystery I must recommend: Sherlock Holmes Was Wrong: Reopening the Case of the Hound of the Baskervilles

That sounds so interesting Jonathan!

I finished The Hound of the Baskervilles (Sherlock Holmes, #5) by Arthur Conan Doyle and now I'm going back to read The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock Holmes, #4) by Arthur Conan Doyle . Jonathan, thanks for the suggestion! I'll look for it.

Jessi | 52 comments This is one of the few I haven't read and it's the first one *sigh* I wish Kindle had it for free I've little money to spare these days. Or maybe I should look it up at the library...

I just completed the entire Sherlock Holmes stories so I'll wait for the next group read. Just wanted to state this story is one of my all time favorites. Enjoy.

I checked to see if my kindle copy was lendable, spell check says that's not a word. Ha ha. Unfortunately, my copy is no longer even available for sale. Sorry, perhaps another kindle version is and you could ask the group.
