It’s winter break at St. Vladimir’s, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. Prologue: (view spoiler)[I absolutely love the last line! I think including a recap in a narrative style of what happened in Vampire Academy was a smart move especially for people who aren't reading the series back-to-back. Having the recap also helps cover the essentials and refresh one's memories of the world. (hide spoiler)]

I completely agree. (view spoiler)[I don't understand why she's so rude to her daughter. Sure, Rose was way out of line by insulting her, but she's a teenager and her mom should act more mature. Tasha is pretty cool and she's so admirable because she doesn't let people staring at her scar get to her. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 1: (view spoiler)[Wow! That's intense! Can I just say how much I love this narration? I mean, Rose just gives all of the serious situations a lighter feel without taking away from their severity. If, like she said, everything is changing, I can't wait to see what happens! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 2: (view spoiler)[Wow, that massacre. I can't believe how many people the strigoi killed and children at that. I have to admit, I really like how the surveillance was written and how, in the end, Rose was tested after all. Seeing the delicate balance between Rose and Christian over sharing Lissa is nice because it leaves room for development. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 3: (view spoiler)[Again, I really like the easy banter between Rose and Mason. Also, can I just say that I loved the training session between her and Dimitri because of how sarcastic he was. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 4: (view spoiler)[Wow, her antagonism is extreme. I can't believe how heated things were getting between Rose and her mother. It seems both of them need to sit down and talk things out. Pointing out your child's soft spots seems kinda rude. It's completely obvious Dimitri still likes Rose even though he's trying not to. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 5: (view spoiler)[I really like Tasha's light personality. The fact she can discuss the attack in such an easy-going way is admirable. Like Rose, I think she should have a guardian just in case she's attacked by more than one strigoi. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 6: (view spoiler)[Again, the tension between the two is astounding. I can't believe Rose actually asked her mom is she'd picked the best specimen to produce with! I think her mom was truly sorry for hitting her so hard in the face because it was just a gut reaction. The fact that she didn't visit Rose in the hospital shows that she wanted to give Rose time and that she didn't know how to apologize. At the same time, I think that she was the person the doctor was talking to when she reported Rose was fine. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 7: (view spoiler)[I like how the friendship between Rose and Lissa is evolving and how they both seem to protect each other.

I wonder what's up with the dark feelings and the ensuing ripple in the bond as its the second time that's happened. Are they just disappearing or is Rose taking them?

I can't believe Mia's behavior! I understand that Lissas brother used her, but to take out her hatred on Lissa and Rose is uncalled for. Also, she was extremely rude and didn't take into consideration that Rose had some personal issues. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 8: (view spoiler)[Wow! Speaking of not wanting to see or be seen doing stuff with a partner. That scene was so awkward for everyone! Even reading it felt weird, you know? I knew it! He still likes her! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 11: (view spoiler)[The ski resort is really nice! I want to go too! Those stunts were insane and pretty reckless. I don't know how I feel about Adrian. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 17: (view spoiler)[I like Lissa's idea about including Moroi defense classes in the academies. The character development Rose has gone through during this book is amazing and I know she still has more to go through as she keeps finding things about herself. I hope her latest realization about her mother will bring them closer together. I want to know more about Adrien and the secrets he seems to be keeping. (hide spoiler)]

Okay, it took me a while to find this thread and I've almost finished the book, but I've been typing out my updates for every 5 chapters on word so I wouldn't forget (: We have a buddy read planned for the 15th but the mods are off for the night so the thread hasn't been updated! I'm just going to post my updates here now!

Chapters 1-5: (view spoiler)[ Okay, I'm really enjoying this book so far. It started off with action and a great storyline for the book. I'm really excited to see where it all goes! Christian and Lissa are just adorable, and I love Christians mom! And we finally meet Roses mom, who seems terrible. They're skii trip sounds fun, but I have a feeling there will be strigoi there and something will go down. Hoping for tons of action! And Rose finally got a stake :D (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 6-10: (view spoiler)[ Why would Dimitri leave Rose and go be with Tasha?! Ugh, that makes me so mad. I'm totally rooting for them to get together. I don't like her and Mason together one bit, I think they're better off with friends. Oh god, Lissa is getting bad again.. Hopefully she doesn't lose it. I can't believe Roses mom gave her a black eye, omg. And Mason got hurt while skiing! This Adrian guy seems interesting, I'm hoping to learn more about him. Can't decide if hes a good guy or not, though. But he totally seems like a cool character. No action yet, but I'm sure there will be soon! (: (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 11-15: (view spoiler)[ So many strigoi attacks! This is getting crazy. I hope they actually go after the Strigoi. I'm still not sure about Adrian at all, I'm not sure what his game plan is. What was Lissa doing in his room, and why is he also sending Rose things and flirting with her? He seems strange, like hes doing something bad. I'm pretty sure he also used compulsion on Lissa at the pool when she went to get Rose. I don't think Tasha's ideas on teaching the Moroi how to defend themselves is a bad idea, why leave to all up to the gaurdians to do? Ugh, I just really want to know what Adrian was doing with Lissa in his room! That doesn't seem like her at all, she loves Christian. AND UGH ROSE WHY DID YOU EVEN HAVE TO TRY TO GET WITH MASON NO NO NO, NO MASON......... (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 16-20: (view spoiler)[ Ugh, why did Mason, Mia, and Eddie have to be so stupid as to go to Spokane and try to hunt Strigoi?! And why were Rose and Christian stupid enough to go?! BUT at least theres the action I was hoping for, it got super intense! I hope they're able to get out of the basement.... Who is Isiah? And will he be a big part of the series? And I'm glad we found out Adrian was a good guy (at least I'm pretty sure he is). Its super cool Lissa found someone that has the same spirit power that she does! Hopefully they can figure out a way to reach Rose in her dreams. That might be the only way for everyone to get out. Omg only 3 more chapters left, I don't think they'll even get out in this book!!
