'20,000,000,000: Potential end of universe
100,000,000,000,000,000,000: Earth dies and plunges into the sun'
Shouldn't these last two be reversed?
Just saying.
Glad to know my laptop will be corrosion free for a while longer. :)
Will also will add year 5,000,000 to my time travel agenda to vastly improve odds of dating success...

There are a few things wrong with that timeline.
The last line is absolute nonsense!
The earth wont plunge into the sun, the sun will engulf it in apprx 6-7 billion years as it expands into a red giant.
But it also misses out that in just 4 billion years the Andromeda galaxy will collide with our milky way. Though Earth may escape harm depending on how the two galaxies collide.
The End of the universe if the more popular Big Freeze theory is assumed will be in a quadrillian years, thats 1,000,000,000,000,000 years.
Nitpicking details aside, love the timeline in principle :)
The important thing to take away from this, is to appreciate our mother earth and thankful for the time we exist in this single speck of near eternity. We could also be very likely to be the only complex lifeform in the universe...debatable of course but the possibility is there should be shouted at those anti ecological politicians of the world.

Ah, a world full of lesbians. Now, where is that time machine of mine?
Yeah, the timeline definitely has its flaws. I think the thing that really got me was how long it will take before Chernobyl is habitable again. I honestly didn't know that it would take that long. What horrors we could create for ourselves long before science does it for us if we are foolish with what we have.
Funny, Tej, I read that as "We could also be very likely to be the only complex lifeform in the universe...DATEABLE of course". Silly me. I think it was Nathan and Alicja that got me off on that note.
If you'd like to read an off-the-wall book about when a male time traveler travels to a future when there's only women, there's a book for that: Daughter Moon.

Here are some of the depressing highlights (the above link has far more details):
1,000 years from now: Most current words in use today are extinct
1,000: Most buildings, bridges, and other structures of today are gone
20,000: Chernobyl finally safe
25,000: Message sent to globular cluster Messler 13 at the far side of the galaxy in 1974 finally received
50,000: Earliest we could receive an answer from the above sent message
100,000: Our constellations will all look different as a result of our movement through the galaxy
100,000: The titanium in your laptop will start to corrode
100,000: Global disaster statistically should have occurred by now (super volcano, asteroid, etc.)
500,000: The spent nuclear fuel in today’s nuclear reactors will be safe
1,000,000: Massive stone structures (like Mt. Rushmore) still in existence while everything else (including glass made today) would be gone.
5,000,000: Males extinct (Y chromosome too weak).
7,200,000: Mt. Rushmore eroded
8,400,000: Re-entry of the LAGEOS satellite programed to carry messages to future descendants of humanity
10,000,000: Earth irradiated by supernova causing mass extinctions
50,000,000: Time at which the entire galaxy could be colonized even at sub-light speeds
250,000,000: All continents fused again into a new Pangea
600,000,000: C3 photosynthesis no longer possible. 99% of all species will die.
800,000,000: End of multicellular life
1,300,000,000: End of most cellular life
1,000,000,000: Small pockets of water may still exist at poles allowing for simple life
3,500,000,000: Earth surface conditions like Venus
14,400,000,00: Sun is black dwarf & invisible to human eyes
20,000,000,000: Potential end of universe
100,000,000,000,000,000,000: Earth dies and plunges into the sun
