Welcome to the "Real" Book Challenge 2014! The four of us are so excited that you wanted to join us. We knew we couldn't be the only ones who like to pet, sniff, and touch our "real" books!

If you haven't done it already, make sure you post about your participation and link it up in our Linky HERE!

At the top of this Goodreads group you can add your goal and create a shelf to keep all your challenge books. It will be a fun way to see what everyone in the group is reading too!

We'll add more discussions later, but for now we'd love to know a little more about you. How about we get to know each other by sharing the following info:

- Name
- Where you're going to post about the challenge. (Blog, tumblr, youtube, etc.)
- The book you're most looking forward to in 2014
- One author you'd give anything to meet
- And anything else you want to share with the group!

Keep an eye out for our first newsletter next week. It will have more information on giveaways, how to earn your badges, mini challenges, and more!

Thanks again for joining in the fun! It's going to be a great year and we can't wait to see what you all read!

- Erin, Jaime, Kassiah, & Meg

Erin My name is Erin and I'll be posting all my challenge accomplishments here an on my Facebook page. My goal is to read in the 11-20 book category.

I can't say there's any one book I'm really looking forward to reading this year, I'm mainly just looking forward to reading. If you ask my kids they would tell you I read all the time but the truth of the matter is that I'm catching up on all the reading I missed out on during their "needy" years. I guess I am looking forward to seeing which book wins the Mark Twain Readers Award (4-6 grades) this year since I read all those books with my older daughter.

Funny enough I won't commit to giving "anything" to meet any author. If I could arrange a meeting I would probably try to meet Beth Moore, Mo Willems, or Sandra Boynton. Yes, the two latter authors write childrens' books but have you ever tried to keep the attention of a toddler? They have my utmost respect (not to mention write hilarious books).

I'm looking forward to meeting this challenge head on.

mad mags (vegandaemon) | 1 comments My name's Kelly and I'll be posting about the challenge on my blog. I set a goal of 78 books on Goodreads, and at least half of these will probably be "real" books. So I'm shooting for 39, but I'm sure it'll be more like 50-60. One of my New Year's resolutions is to use my Kindle more, but most of my library is still physical, so.

I'm kind of behind with new releases, so I'm not sure what's coming out in 2014...but I am forever counting down the days until Philip Pullman finishes The Book of Dust. Needless to say, I'd give my left pinkie finger to meet either him or Margaret Atwood. And MaddAddam was definitely one of my favorites of 2013!

Michela Walters (michelawalters) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Michela. Looking forward to posting my info on my blog and of reading at least 30 real books this year. I love my Nook as I can skip around to different books if I get bored, so I'll probably alternate between reading a real book with on on my e-reader. Looking forward to a fun challenge!

Danica Seavoy (danitronmc) | 3 comments Well helloooo there! I'm Danica:)I'll be posting all my updates to my blog Rainy Tree Reader here (shameless plug)http://danicacannon.wordpress.com

Ah no, the dreaded pick-one-book-in-2014-that-you're-most-excited-for question! Seriously, this is one of the hardest questions to answer, because there are SO many books that I'm dying to read. But if I must, I think I'll have to go with City of Heavenly Fire. After all these years, I am deeply invested in this series. And with this being the final installment and this series being one of my all-time favorites, I think it's safe to say this is at the top of my list.

Gosh, what I wouldn't give to meet J.K. Rowling! I am a die-hard Potterhead and devout Hufflepuff. If I ever got the chance to meet her, I might actually die of a heart attack before it ever happened, that is how ecstatic I would be for that opportunity. But I also love so very many authors that I would absolutely LOVE to meet any of them.

It was nice to meet you all! *raises glass* Here's to happy reading in the year to come!

message 6: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 2 comments My name is Jessica and I'm very excited about joining this challenge because I love reading "real" books. I'll be posting about this challenge on my twitter account. Here's a link to my twitter page: https://twitter.com/xxpaperhearts

I'm hoping to read at least 50 books this year but it'll probably end up being at least 200 books. I read a lot!

The book I'm most looking forward to is definitely 'Return to Tradd Street' by Karen White. I have it ready for me to pick up at the library right now. =] And Karen White is the author I would most like to meet.

message 7: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (tellingmelies) I'm Jenn and am a sucker for book challenges. I'll be posting about this on my blog: http://www.bookjems.com/ and via twitter: https://twitter.com/tellingmelies.

I'm shooting for 50 books, let's see how close I can get. As for the books I'm most looking forward to this year, hmmm. Well, there's Secret by Brigid Kemmerer, Cress by Marissa Meyer, Dreams of Gods & Monsters by Laini Taylor, Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins...that's just a few.

For authors that I'd love to meet, JK Rowling is at the top of the list, of course. Also Laini Taylor, Julie Kagawa, Tellulah Darling...there's just so many!

Thank you for putting this together. Can't wait to see how far I can get!

An author I will give anything to meet is Michelle Hodkin! I missed her a YALLfest back in November but I did get a signed book from her and she's a sweetheart!

message 9: by Marina (new)

Marina Hello everyone,
I always set a goal of 25 book but never actually get to that many so maybe 20. No specific 2014 book. However, I start Cell long ago but things come up and never finished so hopefully this year. By the way I am Marina, hello there :D

message 10: by Franny (new)

Franny (mrsffrey) | 1 comments I'm Franny and I'll be tracking my progress on this challenge here on Goodreads and on my blog: http://englishteachersdeskreference.wordpress.com/reading-challenges.

I'm aiming for the "Aficionado" level :) with 35 "real" books. This should be easy, but I've been reading tons from my Kindle lately.

The book I'm most looking forward to reading is Dreams of Gods & Monsters (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #3) by Laini Taylor . Laini Taylor is such an amazing writer, and I can't wait to see what happens with Karou and Akiva.

On that note, I'd love to meet Laini Taylor or Sara Zarr. I'm sure I would be a big, awkward, gushing mess! :)

message 11: by Outi (new)

Outi (kardemumma) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Outi. I'll be posting about this challenge on twitter: https://twitter.com/kardemum (Maybe on GR and Tumlr too, not sure yet.)

My goal is to read 26 "real" books this year. It's half of my overall reading goal for this year, I think it's doable. :)

There are so many books I'm looking forward to this year, but if I had to choose one, it's probably Laini Taylor's Dreams of Gods and Monsters.

Thanks for organizing this challenge, it's gonna be fun! :)

message 12: by Anna (last edited Jan 29, 2014 11:42AM) (new)

Anna Hi everyone! My name is Anna. I've only been blogging for about five months, but the name of my blog is Annaberry Reads. http://annaberryreads.blogspot.com/

My goal is to read 31-41 real books this year. I adore paper books, but I've mostly read ebooks lately. I have a bunch of books on my shelf that need some love, so I'm going to try and read those. I also frequent the library with my son, who is also a bookworm (my girls hate to read *sadness*), so I'm sure I'll have a few of those to add to this challenge.

The book that I'm mostly looking forward to this year is Written in My Own Heart's Blood (Outlander, #8) by Diana Gabaldon . I have been waiting YEARS for this to come out. LOL.

Anywho, I'm looking forward to getting to know more booklovers, and cheering you guys on with your challenges.

Sophie Hello! I'm Sophie and I'm hoping to read at least 75 books for this challenge :) And there are so many books I'm looking forward to this year so it's hard to just name one!

I'll be posting everything here: http://thevoraciousreader.booklikes.com

message 14: by Yvonne (new)

Yvonne (yvonnej) | 6 comments Hi! My name is Yvonne. I'm going to try to read at least one RB a week...50+ for the year. I'm planning to read all of my RBs while riding on my exercise bike every morning so I'm hoping that the reading will motivate me to keep exercising and that the exercising will motivate me to keep reading. So far...so good. Since I don't blog, I'll be posting on my FB Page and keeping track of my books on my Goodreads 2014-RBC bookshelf.

Natchez Burning by Greg Iles is the book I have been most looking forward to being released in 2014. Since I had the opportunity to read it as an eGalley, I won't be including it in my RBC reads.

I'm not sure that there is any author I would want to actually 'meet' because I'd be too intimidated to have an actual conversation with them. I do enjoy going to book festivals and listening to authors discuss their books and writing and I try to attend any that are within a reasonable commuting distance.

In the words of the amazing Kate DiCamillo, I promise to always turn back toward you. - Flora & Ulysses

Judith | 1 comments Hi everyone! Little bit late, but still: I'm Judith and I will be posting about this challenge on my Goodreads (because I don't have anything else, sorry)and my goal is to read 35 books this year!
I would give everything to meet J.R.R. Tolkien, which would be a lot because he has to come back from the death for that. And I am really looking forward to Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas!

message 17: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Southern (theloremistress) | 2 comments Hi everyone! I too am a little late to the party, but I can't wait to get stuck into this challenge! I have a huge list of 'to reads' and 're-reads' and I hope to get through as many as possible this year. 35 is my challenge, though hopefully I can beat it! I'll be writing about this challenge on my blog:

Kristen O'Brien (kristenobrn) Hello all! My name is Kristen and I'll be writing about this challenge on my blog (http://codeforconfession.com) and my twitter (@CodeConfession).

I set myself a goal of 50 books because I have A LOT on my real bookshelves that I bought but haven't read yet. Yes, it's sad. So I'm planning on working through those! The book I'm most looking forward to is 'Watch the Face of the Sky' by Anna Lee Waldo. This is the third in a trilogy and I first started reading the series years ago. Plus I'm a sucker for Historical Fiction!
Watch the Face of the Sky by Anna Lee Waldo
An author I would absolutely LOVE to meet would be (also) J.K. Rowling. I've been a Potterhead for years and she seems so genuine and I hang on her every word during interviews.

Krystal (crazylittlebookpage) | 1 comments Hi I'm Krystal, I'm 30. I prefer real books to eBooks and I hope to read at least 30 books this year. I have so many books on my night stand waiting to be read that reading them shouldn't be an issue. Nice to meet you all.
