Reading Bingo Challenge

This seems to be the year of book challenges for me.
I can do this challenge since in a given year it seems I have read a book for each of those categories.

Ok, great.

Ok, great.

I love this idea! Count me in. Hey, Denise, I don't know how to do it; but would you consider setting up a widget for this challenge for this group? That way we could keep up with the books and encourage each other. Just a thought...but count me in either way! This will be fun! :)

Great! I will have to look into the widget. Not sure how to do it either. Lol I can also set up a discussion area for the challenge. We can share discussion and progress there.

I have added a challenge widget to the group. We can continue to use this discussion area to talk about the challenge throughout the year. Good luck!

Okay will try the widget and see how it goes.
I will attempt to see if I can fill the bingo card.

Since I am not in the mood to finish up a work project - decided to look at the books I have read this month to see how they fit with the Bingo Squares:
A Book By a Female Author
Secrets & Sins by Bettye Griffin
If you enjoy well-written women's fiction you will enjoy this book. This is the author's best book yet.
A Book Set On a Different Continent
Her Royal Spyness by Rhys Bowen
This year I decided to read more mysteries than I did last year. This is a popular series and while I enjoyed the main character - it was an ok read for me and I probably will not be reading more of the series.
A Book With a Mystery
The Secret History of Las Vegas: A Novel by Chris Abani
I read this book because I have read other books by this author. This is his 1st mystery novel and absolutely loved it. This book will be in my top reads for 2014 list. Well-written and original storylines.
A Book of Nonfiction
Ebony and Ivy: Race, Slavery, and the Troubled History of America's Universities by Craig Steven Wilder
A couple of more pages and I could have counted this book for the more than 500 pages square. :) Very well researched, liked his approach, at times the writing was a little too academic for me.
A Book With a One Word Title
Padre!: A Place Whose Rules Rearrange Your Own by Raven Moore
As an armchair traveler I enjoyed this book written with wit, humor and insight
A Book You Heard About Online
Shovel Ready: A Novel by Adam Sternbergh
Heard some chatter about this book online. Really enjoyed this near-future noir thriller. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
A Book Published This Year
This Dark Road to Mercy by Wiley Cash
Read the author's first novel and really enjoyed it. Everyone was saying that this novel is even better than the first one. And they were right. Contemporary southern literature and the spunky young girl narrator makes this a very good read.

Oh good, I was thinking about reading that one too. Someone told me that book was really good. I never saw the movie. I will watch it after I read the book.

I thought that one might be a hard category too. That is why I chose that one for next month's theme. We can come up with something together.

Actually I had a list and did find one that has been on tbr list. The author was born in 1985

Burial Rites by Hannah Kent

Second Choice would be:
Divergent by Veronica Roth

The First Book by a Favorite Author
If it is a fav author that I have probably read their first book - I am going to have to go through my read "new" authors and see if there is a "fav" there. :)

ok, lol. I actually have one for that category. I like Kimbera Lawson Roby but I have only read her Curtis Black series. So I plan to read Behind Closed Doors.

Any other difficult categories? I can keep those in mind for when I pick next month's theme.

Okay - I looked at my fav authors and came up with two choices (Fav authors for me are authors whose books I automatically buy w/o a 2nd thought).
1st Choice -

The Final Passage by Caryl Phillips
2nd Choice -

One Foot in Eden by Ron Rash

Lethea wrote: "If I can catch them on audio for free....I'm good. I don't care how the books fall on the bingo. I'm just having too much fun......Reading!"
Yeah, me too! Like you, this bingo challenge has really gotten me to step outside of my reading comfort zone.

Yes, for me a day without reading is a day without sunshine. :)

My fav book so far that I read for this challenge is:
The Secret History of Las Vegas: A Novel by Chris Abani
It was my book for the "A Book With A Mystery" square
Denise wrote: "What has been your favorite book that you have read so far in the challenge?"
My favorite book so far has been Last Chance Saloon. I read this book to be a book that a friend loved. It is not one that I normally would have read but I enjoyed it.

Okay I have not purposely been finding books to match the bingo challenge - but after I finish reading a book - I see if it fits a category and so far by chance I have been filling out the squares.
Here are some more squares that I have completed:
A Book With A Blue Cover
[book:How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia|15815364] by Mohsin Hamid
I enjoyed this tongue-in-cheek novel.
The Second Book In a Series
The Trial of Dr. Kate by Michael E. Glasscock III
The Trial of Dr. Kate neatly mixes intrigue, betrayal, secrets and southern sensibilities effectively showing the tensions and alliances living in a rural eastern Tennessee Appalachian town in the early 1950s.
A Book That Became A Movie
Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup
A Funny Book
Sandman Slim by Richard Kadrey
Fun, entertaining and great use of humor. I am continuing my reads of "likable" anti-heros.
A Book That Is More Than 10 Years Old
Love, Anger, Madness: A Haitian Trilogy by Marie Vieux-Chauvet
A Forgotten Classic
This Child's Gonna Live by Sarah E Wright
Glad that ebooks once again made this book available as it would have been a shame if this book was "lost" to those interested in AA women writers.
A Book That Scares You
Buried in the Bitter Waters: The Hidden History of Racial Cleansing in Americaby Elliot Jaspin
Scary how laws can be useless in face of a mob.
A Book Written By Someone Under Thirty
Divergent by Veronica Roth
A Book Your Friend Loves
Ruby: A Novel by Cynthia Bond
This will be one of my top reads for the year
Bond’s impressive debut flourishing with exquisite language nails the complexities of the heart and survival in this deeply affecting tale. It is the 1940s in East Texas and young Ruby is plagued with a beauty tempting men to unspeakable evils escaping to New York never fully escaping her past and returns to her home.
