20/20 Vision Challenge

“Oh how Shakespeare would have loved cinema!”~Derek Jarman, Dancing Ledge

Welcome to the Short & Sweet Treats 20/20 Vision Challenge!

The goal is to read 20 or more books that were made into movies or TV shows.

Now, you can finally get around to reading the books that inspired the movies you love! Or, if you are really good, read the book first then see the movie! Either way you must read book and see movie. If it's a TV show, just make sure you have seen enough episodes to make a good comparison with the book.

Select any 20 or more books that were made into movies or TV shows, and set your own pace. You can give yourself six months, a year, or any other time frame.

You may list the books you would like to read and check them off as read, or just fill them in as you go along.

You may track within this thread or create a new thread in this folder.

By the end of the challenge, you will have achieved 20/20 vision!

Have fun reading and viewing!

Is this restricted to just movies? Can you also include books that were turned in t.v. shows?

Yes that's fine too. It's something I hadn't thought of actually. I think it is a good idea and will give us more options. As long as you've seen enough episodes to make a good comparison.

What did you have in mind? I'm thinking something like Under the Dome?

if anyone would like some ideas on "Short & Sweet" books made into movies, check out our new bookshelf called "Masterpiece Theatre" This will eventually be a genre we will chose from.

If I missed anything let me know.

thank you, Melanti! I will fix those soon! ^_^

message 15: by Melanti (new)

Melanti I've actually read three books-to-movies so far this year -- but I almost never watch movies based on books. Either I love the book and don't want to see Hollywood mangle it or I don't like the book enough to devote more of my life to it.

So far this year I've read:
The Woman in Black: A Ghost Story
Tracks: A Woman's Solo Trek Across 1700 Miles of Australian Outback
The Book Thief

I really liked The Woman in Black (though I've heard they changed the ending in the movie) and Tracks, but hated The Book Thief. I seem to dislike the book for all the same reasons other people love it.

Under the Dome is a good one! I watched the show but didn't read the book... so now I'm on to something.

But also shows like "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" (it's short) or maybe "Game of Thrones" (those books are much longer, but who knows...)

♦Ashley♦ (ascherger12gmailcom) Finished my 2nd 20/20 book,The Black Dahlia. I haven't watched the movie yet, but it's on my to be watched list. I thought I would like this more than I did. It was a slow read for me, until over half way through and it took forever to get into the plot of the book. Meh...
Hopefully I will enjoy the movie better. Between Josh Hartnett, Scarlett Johansen and Hilary Swank - What's not to love?

message 28: by ♦Ashley♦ (new)

♦Ashley♦ (ascherger12gmailcom) Finished Jaws. I was disappointed with ending. I love the movie so much that the lack of suspense in the book was a let down.

Kimberly (samuelzmommy) Challenge start date 05/03/2014. I know I have read more than 20 books that have been turned into movies so my goal will be to only read the book-turned-movie if I have never read it or seen the movie. This should be interesting.

1) The Lathe of Heaven
Ratings: Book, 3 stars; Movie, 1 star. Movies have come a long way since 1980. 5/10/14
2) Something Wicked This Way Comes
Ratings: Book, 2 stars; Movie, 2 stars. The "good" characters in the movie were more aggressive than I imagined them to be in the book. Also, the ending was very anticlimactic. That was the best part of the book and the movie did not do it justice. 5/27/14
3) The Fault in Our Stars
Ratings: Book, 5 stars; Movie, 5 stars. This is such an amazing book-turned-movie! I loved everything about it. 6/17/14
4) TBD
