Ivana Užarević (bookwormconfessions) | 7 comments Ok.... So I have read the book. I have cried at the end. I love this book so much. I love Cy and Zel. I love Marka and Hex and Vera and I really hate Micah. That guy is so horrible. I have so many feels right now. Will there be a sequel to this book ??? Because there really needs to be one. I really hope that this book is not a stand alone because I don't want that ending. Like I really don't like that ending. I need more of this characters and Cy/Zel relationship and more of this story bc its so uniqe and full of action and its fun. I laughed so many times reading this books. Its just so awesome,a really great read.

message 4: by Ivana (new)

Ivana Užarević (bookwormconfessions) | 7 comments I really need a sequal to this book though

message 5: by Anushka (new)

Anushka I loved that part where Zel asks Cy if he knew Latin and he said "I speak the Periodic Table of Elements". That cracked me up so bad.

There is a sequel :D It's called Catalyst and it's coming out this year (I'M SO EXCITED)

Can't wait to find what happens next!

message 6: by Ivana (new)

Ivana Užarević (bookwormconfessions) | 7 comments OMG I found out few min ago that there is a sequel :D and I am so happy about that. I loved the part when Zel is wearing Cy's shirt and he notices it and asks her a couple of times if that is his shirt until she snaps and takes the shirt off and throws it at him and then he blushes hahaha and Wilbert and Hex just stare at them. That part made laugh sooo much hahah :D

message 7: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Haha, I totally forgot about that one! He's all haughty going like "That's my shirt" , I probably would have done that too :P

message 8: by Ilse (new)

Ilse (eelsaysbooks) | 3 comments I need the sequel like I REALLY NEED IT.

message 9: by Anushka (new)

Anushka We empathize !

message 10: by Adeeb (new)

Adeeb (adeebn) | 7 comments I liked the book. Sadly, I expected more. The beginning had me quite intrigued. But, overall, the plot did not seem as dangerous as I wanted it to be. There doesn't seem to be a definite villain and we don't get to know why and who is separating these people. I admit, I LOOOOOVEDD the world it was set in. The science and the chemicals, DNA, etc were SO SO interesting. I wish that the story focused more on that. Unfortunately, it did not. I liked Zel's character and the rest of the characters. The Cy and Zel romance was so funny hahahaa. I was laughing at how she was describing their kissing scenes. It was so cheesy. As a couple though, they were nice. Overall, I gave this a 3/5. It was really good. I just wish it focused more on the world and that there was more action throughout.

message 11: by Jade (new)

Jade Kayy | 5 comments So many emotions right now! Some thing's about this book I really liked and some things I really hated! Like the ending lol but i guess the story couldnt end perfectly if there's going to be a sequel.

I guess my problem is i never really liked the main character Zel.. In fact, I liked everyone else except her ( and obviously Micah and the others). I felt like she was too naive about saving her sister. She never really thought through a logical plan so it was obvious it wouldn't work, so I didnt feel bad for her when it didnt work. (The story did have some twists though, I was shocked about the Wilbert betrayal) And I hate that Zel couldn't sleep until she saved her sister but was willing to trade Cy over, or she didnt put up much of a fight she just kinda accepted it after she took out all those ppl to save her sister... Idk it just sucks either way

Jenny Schoenbauer | 2 comments Just finished and I loved it!! Can't wait for the sequel!

message 13: by Anushka (new)

Anushka Nicole wrote: "I really liked it, so much that I stayed up well after midnight to finish it.

I wish though that Zelia had been more logical, that way Cy might not have traded himself. That was pretty predictable..."

That's there, I guess. She should have thought the whole thing out. Guess the author has something planned?

message 14: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleengreens) | 6 comments This was an excellent book and a great story. It was everything you need all in one; it was serious and funny and romantic and action packed. It hit all the right emotions and I can't wait for the second book to come out. Totally pre-ordering it!

message 15: by Christine (new)

Christine Nguyen (cneve) I liked it but I found the ending all a bit rushed.. there is still a lot of things left unanswered. I am really hoping that there's a sequel cause the ending!!

message 16: by Dana (new)

Dana | 8 comments Loved this book overall..it was funny..witty..dramatic..charming..etc all in one package! I agree with a lot of readers that the book moved at a super fast pace but it didnt bother me because it still kept me in touch with everyone and what was going on. there were a few aeurus characters that could have been brought to life more for better understanding but maybe that will happen in book 2? This will be torture waiting to see whats come of everyone..and im just dying for the Zel Cy reunion!!!! AHHHH :)

message 17: by E.R. (new)

E.R. Walder (emiliewalder) | 2 comments Ah ! The sequel is a good news, because the end was just... bad. I liked the book but this end made me dislike it a short moment.

message 18: by Ryoku (new)

Ryoku Light | 14 comments I was so upset with the ending but then I read the other comments and I'm okay now cuz there is going to be a sequel and I can't wait.....like I want it now. I love this book so much it was amazing!!!

message 19: by Alessandra (new)

Alessandra (deamonicshot162) | 17 comments An Amazing read!! I loved it through and through. Though there were some parts I didn't like (Everything Micah related). I was a little sad with how the book ended. I'm super ecstatic to know that there's a sequel with how to book ended i just knew and I hoped it wasn't a stand alone. That would have been horribly depressing... I just want more of Zel/Cy, of Hex and Vera and Marka and Dyl. Even though the book was at fast pace, I still liked that about it. I would give this 4/5 stars.

message 20: by Tierra (new)

Tierra | 4 comments This book was super entertaining, and I loved the setting and the "mutant" concept. But I AM SO SICK OF STUPID ROMANTIC SUBPLOT. The Cy/Zelia romance was cute, but predictable and unnecessary. If I read one more book with the main character being a girl who doesn't believe that she's beautiful, who meets a boy who's mean to her, then falls deeply in love with him...I'm going to swear off young adult novels. So basically, entertaining and fun, but annoying at times. 3/5 stars.

i originally saw that too..then i saw a post on the authors blog that said fall 2014.. so im hoping for that!

message 24: by Judy (new)

Judy Patrick | 10 comments Just finished and it was amazing!!! It was pretty original and I needed a good dystopian read. I loved the characters like Cy, Vera, Hex, and Marka. Even the villains were well developed! This book had romance, action, humor with a good balance of seriousness and was well paced with the plot and the world building. At first I was super pissed at Zel but I've become more ok with her choices. I need the sequel like right now!!!!! I need my Cy fix! :D

message 25: by Laura (new)

Laura (laurasmit) | 8 comments Loved the book! I didn't like the final chapters as much as I liked the first chapters but it was still a good read. The book's pacing was amazing, never a boring page! I was a little annoyed with Zelia when she went off on her own and it sucks Cy is now with Aureus. I think the characters are fantastic though. Hex, Vera, Ana, Marka... I love them all! Who else found it really weird Wilbert was married to this crazy woman lol?

It feels like one of those books that COULD be a standalone, but BEGS for a sequel. I'm sure once we get more and more people talking about this book, there will be one!

message 27: by Nick (new)

Nick (nicksquiggles) | 8 comments As first I wasn't too impressed with Zel and Cy's relationship but as the book went on I warmed up to them. NOW I AM SO SAD! We need Cy back!!!
I hope the sequel will involve Cy coming back or at least something about what happens to him so we don't have to sit and speculate.

message 28: by Amber (new)

At first I wasn't really for this book but after a while I was just like whoa! pretty good. I really can't wait for the second book.

Valentina | 10 comments Ok, so, I just finished this book and it took me a little more than a day to do it and that means I just couldn't put it down!. I really enjoyed this book and I'm glad I found this group because otherwise I think wouldn't have picked it from millions of other YA books. I do have to say that Zel's character was aggravating at times, especially in the beginning. I thought she didn't acted coherently, she was really shy but then sassy and insecure but flirty and really grieving and confused but didn't ask questions and was very willing in going wherever. After the first couple of chapters she is more cohesive and the character develops beautifully (even though i really want to murder all this female characters that push away the people they love to protect them and sacrifice them self to fix the fucking universe and shit). I really liked the love interest although I wished it were more... IDK just more!. The rest of the people were awesome and funny and well developed. I liked the world, no by any means it tries to be an x-men-wanna-be, this is a unique book and i fully enjoyed every second. Yes the ending wasn't a surprise and it has all the same elements that ya books all have in common making it a little expected but it's an easy read filled with love (and not just the romantic tipe) Yeah! 3.5-4/5 stars! (God that was long!!!)

I am very excited for the sequel. The whole story was just great, and the world was very original. I really enjoyed the science element in the book it was a really nice surprise.
Thank you for the read-a-long guys!!! It was really fun getting to see everyone's thought and theories :)

message 34: by Youssef (new)

Youssef I really enjoyed this book. The plot was really interesting and I eventually warmed up to the characters. However, I felt that the romance between Cy and Zelia was completely rushed and slightly unnecessary. Their romance evolved way too quickly for me to really care about it. That being said, it was an enjoyable read, and I am excited for the sequel.

Brittany Metcalf | 4 comments Loved this book! There was never a dull moment in this book, it was so fast paced that no page was boring. I loved Cy and Zelia and can't wait to see what happens in the sequel. I really loved everyone else to. Vera, Hex, Ana, and Marka are just so fantastic and I love them. I was kinda upset to find out that Wilbert was never with them in the first place. Overall I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the sequel!

message 37: by Liv (new)

Liv (livb) | 5 comments I am so not okay with that ending. I enjoyed the development of the characters; I didn't like Zelia at the beginning, but she grew on me. The same applied for the plot. I started to read Control in pieces to pace myself, but I found that that just frustrated me. Some parts of Control are better than others so it was easy to get sucked in and then not be able to get back into it. This book was awesome in regards to original idea. I loved the science and also the creepy-ness of the villains.

message 38: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Stansbury (jennstansbury) | 7 comments This book was so good. I found the ending where she's fighting through Aerus a little confusing. But I thought is was a good ending. I'm worried that the sequel is going to be similar to this one except instead of saving Dyl they are going to be trying to save Cy. It was very good. Not what I expected. Not a favourite but very good.

message 39: by Angel (new)

Angel | 4 comments :( Nooooo Cy, NOOOOO! <----- my reaction when he traded himself for Dyl and Zel. I was heart broken BUTTTT when I heard there was a sequel I literally screamed. ZEL WILL GET HER MAN BACK!!!! overall this was a great start to a exciting series. WELL DONE LYDIA!!!!!

message 40: by Megan (new)

Megan | 2 comments i really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were fantastic (although i kept getting confused with all the similar sounding names). I didn't like Cy at first but he really grew on me over time. It was a real page turner; I could not put it down. So Good A+

I look forward to reading the next book in the series when it comes out BECAUSE THAT ENDING!!!

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

CY AND ZEL!! WHEN IS THE SEQUEL COMING OUT?!? The feels. I just.... Cy.... And Micah, that jerk! hate him. Anyway, such a fantastic book. So awesome. I want another one! But, the ending.... CY and the poem.... And his beautiful speech.... Gaaaah. So beautiful. <3

message 42: by Mom2triplets04 (new)

Mom2triplets04 | 40 comments Finally finished this. I'm struggling on rating it a 3 or a 4. I loved the beginning it was so fast paced kept me reading but by the 3rd part of the book I got bored and put the book down. I wanted to hear more about what happened to the sister. I did not find any humor in the book at all. Guess I'm just too old and don't get how the teens are saying this was funny. I did not like the ending but at least it left off where the next book will explain more.

message 43: by Danica (new)

Danica | 4 comments I cried at the end. I was not expecting Cy to trade himself like that. I really can't wait for the sequel now. While I had a few minor problems with this book, I still give it 5 stars, because I truly did love it.

One of the problems I had with it was Cy and Zel's relationship. It's not that I have a problem with them being together, it's just the fact that they act like they can't live without one another. After reading Divergent and Insurgent and seeing Tris and Four's relationship, all these relationships where they are dependent on one another just fall kind of flat for me now.

I also really didn't like the fact that Cy stopped wearing his tattoos and piercings; he shouldn't try to change himself for other people. I know Zel never outright asked him to stop wearing them, but it just had that feeling where you know he stopped for her.

I'm a huge sci fi fan, and I wished we could've learned more about the actual world/future that Zel is living in. But I don't think I would be truly satisfied no matter how much world building Lydia gave us; I'd just keep wanting more. :P

I am still standing by my theory that Marka is Zel and Dyl's real mother. I don't know why, I just have a feeling, and I know I am probably wrong, but I guess we will just have to wait and see once Catalyst is out!

I really wasn't expecting that Wilbert betrayal. I thought he was one of the characters that Zel could really trust, but I guess that in itself should've been a red flag.

But oh man, that ending. I have so many feels about this book. I cannot wait till Catalyst comes out.

message 44: by Kellseigh (new)

Kellseigh I just finished the book! I can't decide between 3 and 4 stars, but I'm leaning towards 4 because I found the book so captivating and couldn't put it down. It was a really entertaining read.

I found the ending a bit confusing when Zelia is fighting in the club and then all of a sudden everything stops and they're in the office with SunAj (?). It was just really abrupt for me, but the action of those scenes was pretty cool.

One thing that really surprised me was Wilbert's betrayal! I was not expecting that at all! Kind of makes me sad because I really thought we could trust his character. But maybe this leaves room for new characters in Carus house in the sequel...?

Overall I found the book very entertaining and I'm really looking forward to seeing the characters I grew to love in the sequel!

message 46: by Crissie (last edited Feb 09, 2014 04:41PM) (new)

Crissie Wood (ctwood09) | 9 comments I originally planned to leave a comment in each section in the group, but that did not work out after chapter 8 because I couldn't bring myself to put the book down long enough to think of or write a comment.

The book isn't without flaws, but I loved the characters. I felt like the book had really good parts and then others that I was like "this again." Also, I hate it when I am too far ahead of the characters because of foreshadowing or just general obviousness. I liked the ending and it was well done, but I didn't get too upset because while the ending was heartfelt and pulled at my heart a bit, I'm pretty sure Cy and Zel will be back together in the next book.(I say that and now watch this be the 1 in 100 books where the guy and girl don't end up together in some way) Last criticism, SunAj is a little too much of a stereotype villain for my taste. Kind of like the bald man stroking a cat stereotype feel. If that last sentence makes no sense please ignore it.

Even with those flaws though, I really enjoyed the book. Like I said, I loved the character's which is most important to me. I love falling in love with secondary characters as well as the main characters and even feeling for the villains if I can, and it was really easy to do that in this book. At least for the secondary characters. I'm still suspicious that there may be something about Micah that we don't know yet that may make him seem less pathological and more turned evil by circumstance. Comments made by Zell about his reaction to some things.

All in all, I can't wait for the next book. And I mean that literally. You can not end a book like that and expect us to wait. It's just not nice.

message 47: by Cody (new)

Cody Carter (codayy321) The book was amazing. The end.

message 48: by Celeste (new)

Celeste (pinkbear) It was a really easy book to read which is what I like. I like the comic relief that Zel and Cy bring to the story for example when Cy realised that she was wearing his shirt and got angry about and than Zel took it off and stormed away in her bra! And when they all stirred Cy and Zel up the morning after.

My heart goes out to Ana and I did love how Cy said to Zel that she had two sisters now referring to not only Dyl but Ana too

So want the styling tools that Dyl had in her purse :)

What I'm interested in reading about in the next book is;

In the next book I'd love to see how Wilbert plays his part or if he doesn't show up at all!
How Zel's dad was apart of it all?
Will Zel meet her mother?
Does anyone die in the next book?
Amd Hex and Vera's relationship?!?!
