Alyssaacecilia | 8 comments I read this book between the end of 2012 to the start of 2013, and the age range was about 13+

Ok, so I'm looking for a book about this girl who has escaped a place where she was being experimented on.She goes to school and when one of these really mean girls makes her angry so the lights begin to flicker. The boyfriend for this girl wants to get back at her so she ask the one with the powers for help but doesn't really know very much about her. They end up falling for each other but she's not supposed to get close to anyone otherwise the government might find where she is, I think at the end of the book she finds out her 'Dad' was working against her - she is captured again but the boy and the mean girl get her out.

This has really been bothering me and I appreciate any help given! :)

bookel | 4018 comments Give spoilers if you want. Either using a spoiler cut (a post on the forum gives details) or give a warning. Personally I don't care if there's spoilers (this is the only site that seems to want that warning), as it may help solve the query. Was it a new book at the time?

Thanks :) and yes I think it was just not a very well known one

bookel | 4018 comments I'll search tomorrow if it isn't answered. What kind of special powers, do you recall? My approach at this stage, and you could try it yourself, is Google books advanced search. Year range which you've established as fairly recent. Keywords you're sure of
or guessing at being in the book such as school, powers, "lights flickered". The tense could be useful if search inside the book is available. Also restrict by Books and language
English. "Juvenile fiction" in the subjects if it helps. Sometimes does sometimes doesn't.

Another place to try is worldcat.org advanced search. Less keywords as it depends what's in the book summary and subjects, but easier to restrict by books juvenile fiction English and year range and sort by date.

bookel | 4018 comments Telepathy and kinesiology... Was telepathy used in the text do you think?

ESP/psychics YA fiction is very popular so it should be findable.

bookel | 4018 comments Kinesthetics, whatever the word is to move an object. It's less likely than telepathy to be in the text.

Ok cool I'll try that

bookel | 4018 comments Prisoner of Fire  by
Edmund Cooper
Hachette UK, 30 Nov 2012 - Fiction - 320 pages
1 Review
Vanessa Smith looked like any normal seventeen year old girl. But Vanessa wasn't normal at all.

She possessed extraordinary telepathic powers - and in the 1990s telepathy was the ultimate weapon in psychological warfare. Vanessa, along with other gifted children, was virtually a prisoner at Random Hill Residential School, developing her abilities for Government exploitation.

So when she escaped, Vanessa became a political embarrassment. Questions were asked by the Opposition. It was vital for the Prime Minister, the ruthlessly dictatorial Sir Joseph Humbolt, that everything that marked Vanessa's existence should be erased. And orders were given that she should be hunted down - using telepaths like herself - and destroyed.

This was found using keywords school escape telepathy powers, in Google Books.
