Peggy | 25 comments I bought a barcode scanner, so I can scan all my books into a database. Could you recommend a good database that utilizes the barcode scanner? I have a Mac.
Thank you,
Peg

I use and love Delicious Library, you can read about it/buy it at the app store, or their website is http://delicious-monster.com - you can find out more there and see screenshots, etc.

ETA: I should also just mention - delicious library will also use your built-in camera to scan the books in - you don't have to have a hand held scanner - but since you do, they are supposed to work well with the program.

I put Goodreads onto my smartphone and can use a scanner through the camera (I just downloaded a program for the scanner app), and can now add books to my GRs shelves that way.

I use the GR scanner on my iPhone for that too - I love it! Libib.com has something similar I use as well. I use Delicious Library so I have an at-home database of books I currently own/have on my shelves. It also came in handy when it came time to estimate the value of the books for insurance purposes. That was a heart wrenching moment - seeing how much it would cost to replace all my books. :P

They sell databases for books, movies, music and others. They also have free demo versions you can try to see if your barcode scanner is compatable. I use all 3 and really like them. I believe they have mobile apps as well.
