Addy | 1944 comments So far its Scott, Addy, and Andy. Feel free to join us. Will be starting Feb 1st!

Char This is awesome stuff right here! I hope you guys enjoy it!

message 3: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Thanks Charlene!

message 4: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments Yay! I picked up the kindle bundle for 9.99 back around the holidays.

message 5: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Nice deal! I'm gonna try to get my dad to read this. It sounds like something he'd like.

message 6: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments Is he on Goodreads. I might be able to convince my mom to check it out.

message 7: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments No. He's not, but I'm trying to get him to read more..lol. He's more a movie guy I guess.

Scott (ttownscott) Thanks for setting up the thread. When did you want to start Addy. How long is your loan for?

message 9: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments We could start soon, like Monday? I'm not picky. I actually was able to get a copy that I can keep. I read the prologue and the writing is superb. I think I'm gonna like this!

Scott (ttownscott) If your copy is one that you can keep, are you OK to start this one next weekend? I'm reading Summer of Night right now and it is a long one and I need to focus on finishing it before it's due.

message 11: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments I am willing to start anytime. So many books, so little time. Its always possible to start 2-3 more books in the meantime.

message 12: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Sure. Next weekend is fine. I'll get a jumpstart on the shining and finish up a couple more reads I'm working on.

This book is amazing, I really loved it. Hope you all enjoy it.

message 14: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Thank you Kate! I already am:)

message 15: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Ok. I'm prob gonna start tonight. I've been dying to read this now...lol.

Scott (ttownscott) I may actually start Sunday night or Monday. I'm 85% done with Summer of night which is really great at that point.

message 17: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments That's ok. I might actually wait til tomorrow. I'm almost done with The Shining.

message 18: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I'm not very far, 3%, but this is really interesting. Alot of characters to keep track of. I'm kinda writing notes as I go along.

message 19: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I would hate to have a brother like Visery!

Scott (ttownscott) Starting tomorrow. Too much celebrating the Seahawks to read tonight!

message 21: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Np. I'm not much for football. I'll use spoilers since this book has got its hooks in me!

message 22: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments (view spoiler)

Scott (ttownscott) How do you want to do this. 25% a week spoilers like a monthly selection?

message 24: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Sure. That works for me since I'm not joining the group read this month.

Scott (ttownscott) Yeah, me either. First miss for me in a while.

message 26: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Yeah, I just have alot of huge reads going on, plus I don't own it. So 25% by next sunday?

message 27: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments That sounds like something I can handle, too.

message 28: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Great! So far its pretty good:)

message 29: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments I've previously read the first 50 pages twice and gave up both times when the character list started getting big. I'm gonna concentrate on the Shining for a few days, but will keep up with the 25% per week.

message 30: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments Have you watched the show yet, Addy? I've been ignoring it.

message 31: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments No. I have crappy cable, but I really haven't had an interest in it til recently. Do u have the kindle version? I'm still writing notes but in my version every character name is underlined and if I tap on it, it takes me to a page and tells me who they are.

Scott (ttownscott) The decapitated guy was the old guy Gared from Prolog who stayed behind to watch the horses.

message 33: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Oh ok. That makes sense. How are you liking it?

Scott (ttownscott) I'm not as far as I hoped, so still don't know what's going on. I'm 3% into it. It seems like their world has seven (or nine) year summers and winters. The kid that watched the beheading was 7 and was born two years into summer. I'm not going to make a big effort to remember names. My friend at work told me that people get killed off a lot.

message 35: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Yes, I haven't got back to it yet as I'm trying to finish The Passage, another epic read. I left at 7%, and to my surprise I love it! The queens brother, the dwarf is an interesting character and I like the bastard child. I think he could be the rebellious type.

message 36: by Andy (new)

Andy (manicsloth) | 787 comments I remember really liking the adopted son, John Snow was his name?

Scott (ttownscott) I am also liking Jon the bastard child and the dwarf. I have the feeling they will fly under the radar yet be very instrumental in the story. I'm 12% now.

message 38: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Ok. Finished The Passage which was an awesome book if anyone hasn't already read it. Now I can focus on this one. Prob wont get to 25%, but that's ok. Will be resuming tomorrow so I may be blowing up this thread...lol.

Scott (ttownscott) I'm 17%. It's the only thing I'm reading, but I've been having some interruptions to my reading time.

message 40: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I'm about 10%. Joffrey is a little shit...lol. I don't see him or Robb getting along....ever. I dont like the Lannisters either. They seem like a crude bunch.

message 41: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments (view spoiler)

Scott (ttownscott) I'm at 20% and I still wonder where Tyrion's loyalties lie. This is an immense book!

message 43: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I'm about 15% now. The Dothraki wedding...very unusual.

message 44: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Wow, what did u think of what they did to the boy mycah and poor Lady, though I'm glad it was Ned and not Lannister's ppl. Ned was smart in that aspect. I really hope the Queen gets it at some point. They are soo evil!

Scott (ttownscott) Unfortunately, skips away from the Lannisters for a while. I'm about 28% now. Bran is making a very interesting recovery and Jon is adapting to the wall. I have the feeling there will be supernatural elements to this book but other than the intro chapter I haven't seen anything.

message 46: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I see what you mean about Tyrion...could it really have been his idea to rid of the boy? Somehow I feel there is more to it.

message 47: by Kate (new) - added it

Kate | 1106 comments Mod
I've only read the first two books of the series, but Tyrion Lannister is my favourite character. That was a great moment when he slapped Joffrey. ;)

message 48: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Yes. Lol...he deserved it! Do u plan on reading the rest or did it fizzle?

message 49: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Gonna try to read to 40% tonight. I feel bad because its all I want to read...lol. I'm glad I didn't join any group reads. I've watched some clips of the show thru YouTube and it looks amazing.

Scott (ttownscott) I'll probably jam on it as well. I have a flight to Austin this weekend.
