I've created a challenging N&S quiz. You have to know the book for this one!

1. How old is Margaret at the time of Edith’s wedding?

2. Where is the Lennox family from?

3. What military rank did Aunt Shaw’s late husband hold?

4. What is Mr. Bell’s first name?

5. Is it Bessy or Bessie?

6. What is the port town nearest Helstone?

7. How did Leonards happen to be at the station to discover Fred?

8. What are Mr. and Mrs. Hale’s first names?

9. True/False: Gaskell was a master of precision in writing the sequence of events.

10. What pet did Aunt Shaw have?

11. What is the name of Frederick’s intended (and later, wife)?

12. Name one of the books that Hannah Thornton reads from.

13. What personal tragedy did Hannah silently recall during her visit with the dying Mrs. Hale?

14. True/False: The Great Exhibition is mentioned in a conversation between Thornton and Mr. Hale.

15. True/False: Thornton discovers that Margaret has a brother from Mr. Bell.

16. True/False: Higgins calls Thornton a bulldog.

17. Mr. Thornton made a point of visiting Helstone while returning from a business trip to what venue?

18. True/False: Mr. Thornton attends the funeral of both Margaret’s mother and father.

19. What is the name of the member of parliament who comes to dinner at Aunt Shaw’s house in the penultimate chapter?

20 . How much time passed between Thornton’s post-riot declaration of love and the final scene in London in which Margaret offers her fortune to Thornton? (a.) six months (b.) a year (c.) 18 months (d.) two years

The answers are here: http://iwanttobeapinup.wordpress.com/...

Good luck!

Sorry for the belated response to this post, Trudy - thank you for posting the quiz! I think it's a great - and quite difficult - quiz, but very enjoyable. I got an embarrassingly low score the first time I tried it a little while ago, but I'm going to re-try it when I next read N&S - evidently I need to pay more attention! :)

It was meant to be difficult. For the tried and true lovers of the book, not just the adaptation. ;)

Well, difficult is good! :) And I do love the book, I suppose I just have to read it a few more times before I am considered "tried and true". :P

It's been over four and half years for me since I first read it. And I've never stopped discussing it with others in all that time! So, if you get 5 out of ten or so, I'd say you're doing great. :)

Hehe, *blush* I think I got eight out of twenty/four out of ten. :) But I dare say I will get better! After all the first time I read it was only three months ago. Which I can hardly believe, really, thinking about it - North and South is such a wonderful part of my life now I can't imagine what I did before, without the story and the series.

Finally got round to it! 16/20! Woohoo! I am an observant reader and always read very throughly - hence why I am a slower reader :)

I didn't get number 4, 6, 12 and 19 :)

Great quiz!!

Wow, well done Soph! I am very ashamed of myself now. :(

I am a very quick reader though - which doesn't mean I'm un-observant, necessarily, I just sometimes don't remember the very fine details until I've read the book a couple more times.

P.S. As per my previous comment, I'd just like to say thank you again for introducing me to North and South. <3 I honestly don't know what is do without it. (Well, it and my consequent sampling of various things Richard Armitage has done, of course. ;) )

Thank you! :)

And once again you are welcome - it took a little nagging/pestering to get you round to watching it but I just knew you would love it - and I was right ;)

You're welcome. :)

Oh shush, it didn't take that much pestering! :P <3 (Okay, so maybe it took a little... *ashamed mumbling*...) But indeed, you were very right in thinking I would love it. :)

Well done Juliana! I've finally retried this quiz after another couple of re-reads, and thankfully got a much better score than the first time! 15/20 as well - I missed Questions 2, (damn those Lennoxes :P) 6, 12, 17 and 19. :)
