Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall (taelianaofthewind) | 1580 comments Eee! There's a thread for this? Brilliant!!! We're just going to the library today(in fact, my excuse for getting on Goodreads was renewing our books).

Great thread, Rebecca!

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

ikr! I am always so excited about the books I just got out, but my family does not share my enthusiasm.

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall (taelianaofthewind) | 1580 comments Oh, dear. Your books look lovely though! We go every week - How often do you visit the library?

message 9: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 22, 2014 09:19AM) (new)

I work there!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, actually, not at the library I got those books from.... Last month I got a card in another (bigger city!) library system since I am in the area about every other week.

message 10: by Chantae (new)

Chantae B. I checked out matched a few days ago

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall (taelianaofthewind) | 1580 comments You do? Oooohhhh my goodness! How fantastic!(I've always wanted to become a librarian, surprisingly, although it's more "History professor, librarian, author part-time violinist")
Ah! Sounds interesting. Lucky you :D.

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall (taelianaofthewind) | 1580 comments Chantae wrote: "I checked out matched a few days ago"

How far are you? I tried to read it, but could not simply stand all the fluff and romance.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I do love working at the library, but I am not even going to try becoming a career librarian. (you can message me if you want to know why)

I am a page and my main job is putting the books back on the shelf. I also get to back up the desk when we are busy. I like doing that. :P

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall (taelianaofthewind) | 1580 comments Wonderful! I'm thinking of volunteering at our library, honestly, but have a little bit of trepidation.

For the library? It was tres bon!!

Arden Shakespeare's The Complete Works(Yeah. I saw it on the shelf and instantly segued into "My precious! Must hug to chest!" mode.
Admittedly, it was the time of getting paranormal young-adult books that I've not read i.e., Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Days of Blood and Starlight(Still a little...ehhh...) and A Great and Terrible Beauty. The Brides of Rollrock Island was one tome I was cogitating on receiving, but did not actually place a hold and consequently it was one of those books I mean to read and when I see it on the shelf it's off in a blink.
Hmmrmr. A book called Ship Breaker, Cinder by Marissa Meyer, and Unspoken of the Lynburn Legacy books.
Overall, the Lynburn Legacy novel is the one I've gotten further into. Kami strikes me as a rather Mary Sue character.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

And of course I did not get a notification for this thread....

I soooooo want to read Cinder!! I have quite a few books out as it is though, so it might be a while before I have time for it.

And currently I am doing a bit of reading "homework." The children's coordinator wants my help with the American Girl program next month. While I adored those books when I was younger, I have not read them for years. So I have all the Kaya books out, and I want to get them back to the library soon for all the girls that want to read them before the program as well.

message 16: by Dakota (new)

Dakota Stein (droelofs001) I haven't checked it out yet but later today I am gonna get Uglies by Scott Westerfield

message 17: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) Okay, this wasn't today, but it was yesterday. I acquired: Prodigy Russian Roulette: The Story of an Assassin Fallout and the rest of the books in the Hallows series (like six books)

message 18: by Ben (new)

Ben | 8 comments I got the first spiderwick chronicles book, to read for fun, even if it is a small book.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I did not get these out today, but here are the books I checked out last week

The Icebound Land (Ranger's Apprentice, #3) by John Flanagan The Battle for Skandia (Ranger's Apprentice, #4) by John Flanagan Erak's Ransom (Ranger's Apprentice, #7) by John Flanagan Luminary (Anomaly #2) by Krista McGee Swipe (Swipe, #1) by Evan Angler Sneak (Swipe, #2) by Evan Angler Storm (Swipe #3) by Evan Angler Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1) by Kristin Cashore Daddy-Long-Legs by Jean Webster The Lions of Little Rock by Kristin Levine

I am quite excited about reading these! Especially the Anomanly book and the Swipe books. Oh, and Daddy-Long-Legs, and the Rangers books. And....let's just say I am excited about all of them ;)

I . . .
I'm pretty sure our library has a limit of like 30.

Our limit is 50 books and, I think, 25 DVDS, and I go to two libraries. Also, me and my sister interchangeably use our cards, so theoretically, we could have 200 books out, not counting the extra 100 DVDS we could have.

So yeah.

Eheh. I'm the clown who orders ten books and then can't finish them all before they have to go to the library . . . and then I have nothing to read.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

One library I go to has a 35 book limit, though no one really stops you from getting more books than that (I know from experience). Plus, my sister has a card there too. You can only get out 3 DVDs though. The other library I go too has like a 50 book limit, I think. And you can get out 30 DVDs.

I have done that too! Though there is nothing wrong with returning them and getting them back out later! The first library I mentioned you can check the books out for 4 weeks and renew them twice. I love how long I can keep them! The other library you can only check books out for 2 weeks, and renew them three times. I somehow always end up with late fees there because I forget to renew them on time, and there is no grace period. :(

johanna (jo) (johannad_m) | 11500 comments Mod
Awh. I can get them out for four weeks, and renew twice, I think, though only if no one's on the waiting list . . . which they usually are. D:

message 30: by Elevetha (new)

Elevetha | 11058 comments At both of mine, you get books and CDs for 3 weeks, DVDs for 1 week, and you can renew twice, unless there are requests.

DVDs are a week for me, I think, too.

You should see me when I go to the library...If I don't remember my bags (notice plural) I end up with too many books to carry. Regarding the limit thing, you're really suposed to only check out no more than twenty but they usually don't inforce it.
And today I did go to the library, a bit dissapointing actually. I only got three books.
Tamar: A Novel of Espionage, Passion, and Betrayal
Beautiful Darkness
Angelfire

Yesterday I got out Revolutionary (Anomaly, #3) by Krista McGee and The Kiss of Deception (The Remnant Chronicles, #1) by Mary E. Pearson
I'm looking forward to reading them!

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall (taelianaofthewind) | 1580 comments Ooh. The latter looks good! Have you began it yet? I only hope it doesn't dissolve into romance... it has an interesting premise, though.

Right-o ;).

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

So far the romance is not the main plot....but I have basically halted my reading of it because I have to finish Silver Like Dust for school.

Theodosia of the Fathomless Hall (taelianaofthewind) | 1580 comments How far have you gotten? I previewed it on Amazon (I love how you can casually mention "Amazon previewing" or "fangirling" and everyone will understand your meaning, incidentally)... It seemed fine, but with too many adjectives *shakes head* *purses lips*
Oh dear, adjectives!
Admitted, it's not the most of a book's problems :D.

message 44: by Rebecca (new)
