CJ Spear If anyone has read 'The Waste Lands' by Stephen King, this quote is my favorite moment from the whole series so far! Eddie, who has overcome heroin addiction and an inferiority complex from his brother, still fears his own lack of ability. When Roland the Gunslinger presses him to his breaking point, in order to have him overcome his fear, Eddie pulls a gun on Roland. Roland reflects back to training his deadly hawk, David.

"Somewhere in the distance a crow hailed its harsh cry into the stillness, and Roland thought for a moment of his hawk, David. Now Eddie was his hawk... and like David, he would not scruple to tear out his eye if he gave so much as a single inch."

Annemarie Donahue This book is amazing. I'm finally reading the series now and am half-way through Wizard and Glass. I just got a puppy so my reading has stalled pretty horrifically but I was burning through. I had read the graphic novelization prior and thought it was brilliant, but the book really shows you how close Roland was to David. I love the relationship... and I'm so freaking happy that Jake came back!

Josh King is King in this series. The quote you mentioned illustrates perfectly this amazingly tense moment. Eddie is definitely under pressure and has to decide whether he's the "fight or flight" type. Each character slowly comes to realize that this is their new life - as gunslingers - and the most amazing transformation in The Waste Lands is Eddie Dean. I did a Wastelands Book Talk with a buddy if you're interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSjy_...

Annemarie Donahue I also like this quote as it talks of Roland's awareness of Eddie's danger against him. David, the hawk, died to help Roland defeat his mentor and become a gun-slinger. Eddie is a weapon as well, and as weapons David and Eddie have a power that Roland must control perfectly or be destroyed by. That's what I took away from it.
@Josh - your youtube vdo is fantastic! Really like your channel, I'm trying to develop mine like this but had to take summer off.

Good connection between David the Hawk and Eddie the Human. Roland had his manhood ushered in with the help of one, and perhaps he will have his destiny ushered in with the other! When your BookTube Channel goes up, send it along! I'd love to see it.

I just haven't done much this summer. But I have four episodes in the computer and I need to edit them and get them up.
I'm only half way through the series and really loving to watch Eddie develop as a character. I'm doing my best to stay away from spoilers.

Josh Bonus Points for "Books from my Car" playlist. I like!

Thanks! I loved that series, and miss listening to books... do NOT miss the 1.5 hour commute.
