This was ok... The first half was pretty slow and boring, (lots of world building) but the second half was good.

Gervan (gjalvi) I'll join in on this read! I'll start the book either today or tomorrow

Lawrence Ambrose (ambrose2014) | 21 comments In my opinion, it got stronger as it went along, and stronger still in her second book. I found the third book unreadable, strangely enough. ;/

I will pick up the series again eventually...

Lawrence Ambrose (ambrose2014) | 21 comments In my opinion, Laini Taylor is the gold standard of fantasy writing. Her ideas are very original, and her writing is usually superb. She's good with romance and action, which makes her a double threat there. Heck, I even named a character after her! :)

Smiley I was recommended this book but I haven't got around to reading it. Hopefully I can start it soon!
From this discussion, at least I'm aware that the beginning will be slow... Need to prepare myself for a slow start! xP

Lawrence Ambrose (ambrose2014) | 21 comments I almost stopped reading a couple of times at the start, but then the book hits its stride at the middle of the first book, and just keeps getting better (imo) through the second book.

And then it's boring and muddled all over again in the third. Laini Taylor really struggled trying to find her way in the final (?) book. I suspected she was in trouble when she took two years to write it (after approximately one year for DAYS OF BLOOD AND STARLIGHT). That makes me think "struggling." A powerful, organic story practically writes itself.

I really hate it when the author gives you a sense of false hope and you actually think that the story will end on a high note, but the last book is just really disappointing! :(

It just makes the whole series seem like a failure when the ending just doesn't do the other books any justice! :)

message 13: by Riya (new) - rated it 5 stars

Riya This is such an amazing book!!!! I personally thought the last book was awesome. It was more complex than the first two, but it was still super good and I think the series ended on a high note :)

Sabrina (forebodinq) I have to say that I agree with Riya.
I think maybe it was the writing and the originality of the story that made me love it so much. I also really enjoyed the last book and how everything seemed to fall into place.

I just started this book the other night and Im already at the 40 percent mark it really grabbed me, but I am listening to the audible version of it and Im really enjoying the narrator's accents for each character.
