I like it, cuz as said it's where everything starts, I've listened to this more than the others(the audio book)((Whenever I feel anything(!! like bored, or I miss HP, or really anything!) I listen to one of the audio books!))...=D

Pandy | 637 comments I love this one, because as you guys said, it's the beginning. It's light hearted, often funny, and has such a magical atmosphere.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

It was the BEST book. The first ones always are, because they have started something completely unique.

message 5: by Pandy (new)

Pandy | 637 comments The first books are wonderful, but I think Harry Potter is a series where the books get progressively better for the most part.

Mmm... this was mah least favorite Harry Potta book.

message 16: by Pandy (new)

Pandy | 637 comments I think the writing and plot structure got better and more complicated as the books progressed, but I still love the first book for its humor (not to say that this is lacking in the later books) and for introducing us to such a magical world and great characters.

Sure.... I still think that first books of most things (excluding Hunger GAmes) are the worst and most boring because the author is saving it until the end to get the most suspenceful. We were learning about plot lines in school and there's the rising action, climax, blah blah blah. Technically, each book has a whole plot line, but each series has it's own whole one. Like, in Harry Potter the main thing is to kill *sob* Voldy. That doesn't really happen until the end, but each book has it's own plot. In the Sorcerer's Stone, it's to keep Voldy away from the Stone, but the main thing is still to defeat him. You sabe???? (lol, we were reading Dragonwings in school....)

Yeah, technically speaking, the entire series is the rising action and the last book is the climax. Feel free to disagree.

But then there are some like Magic Tree House or wha..."

oh those bug me. Like the warriors series. I never read those because there are too many and I would never have time to read anything else.

message 19: by Pandy (new)

Pandy | 637 comments I remember when I was younger I would get addicted to series like that, (i.e. Magic Tree House, Mandy books, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and Redwall) but I would eventually get bored. I don't read them anymore.

They actually stop. All the ones you mentioned, Pandy are like their own book, but like a series. And all of the books in the series has the same type of plot line, just in different words.

yes. which can get very annoying, not to mention predictable, so you can just look at the cover and say what's going to happen.

I know. Like the Magic Treehouse Titanic one. Oh. They're gonna go back in time, be part of the Titanic, get something, and go home.

message 23: by Annie (new)

Annie (annieiscool13) | 31 comments I hate the Magic Treehouse books! I just never really liked them. Now staying on topic, I thought the 1st HP book was okay. It was NOT my favorite but it wasn't the worst. This was the book where everything gets explained. Something I noticed that was in this book the writing was very simple but as the series continued the writing got more complex and better. (IM HAPPY BECAUSE I JUST GOT THE BATTLE OF THE LABYRINTH THE 4TH PJO!!!)

I love PJO! Yeah, HP #1 and all the other #1 books are usually the worst (with an exception of Twi***** because it was shorter, causing less pain)
