Sarah | 186 comments I watched the three part mini-series on Netflix a little while ago and thought that the book might be a good read.

So when it came time to choose a book for this week I just went through my to-read list and looked for the one on there with the lowest rating. Death Comes to Pemberley just happened to be that one!

Heather Godwin (hpgodwin) | 84 comments I have tried to read this book (a christmas present) several times and can't seem to get into it. It's a great plot/idea and I did see it was made into a mini-series on Netflix, maybe I'll watch that and it will energize me to try to finish the book.

I have to agree with you. I haven't' gotten very far into the book but I keep putting it down to read something else. It's just not holding my interest right now.

I am hoping that the farther along in the book I get the more I will like it.

Jennifer Van Beveren | 93 comments It's funny that you say that b/c I was reading another book by PD James and had to finally put it down b/c I couldn't get through it!

Biana I picked this one up because someone said it was a good movie. Now that I've read the book...I will not be seeing the movie.

I was very disappointed in the characters. Not that they weren't good characters, they just weren't Austen's characters. Elizabeth in particular...she became the exact kind of woman that we would expect from that period, but not like we had grown accustomed to in the previous tale.

I wasn't going to do this week's challenge because I've encountered plenty of bad books all on my own. (Including the Pulitzer Winner, ew!) But now that you have said this book....I'm going to check it off!! Thanks!

Danaë | 30 comments I had a different book picked out for this week but was intrigued enough by this thread and the book's reviews to switch. I'm about 40 pages in and not impressed so far. The soap opera like recaps of how everyone met are very jarring and don't make for natural dialogue. I hope once the mystery gets underway I'll be able to get into the flow of the book.

Sarah | 186 comments This is one of those books that I am pretty sure if I hadn't seen the movie first I would have never picked it up. I like the idea of the book but I am not all that into the story itself. Or maybe its more correct to say the story isn't holding my interest like I thought that it would. I have been siting at 70% done for over a week now and I have just kinda placed the book to the side to read something else.

Danaë | 30 comments Finished last night. I felt the same lack of interest while reading this book, Sarah. It was just dull. I wouldn't have bothered finishing it if it weren't for this challenge. I couldn't drum up much interest in who the murderer was, and sadly the characters didn't seem to care much either. I love the idea of this book, but the execution was so disappointing. Perhaps it was a rush job? I'm going to read one of P.D. James' other books for comparison purposes. I know she has many fans, so they have to be better than this.

Sarah | 186 comments Yes I finally finished this book! Only took me almost a month to read this one. In the end I had to get an audio version of the book. It was much better listening to someone read the book to me! I ended up enjoying the last 30% of the book because of that!
