I wanted to recommend A Thirst For Home as a book to add to your classroom library this coming school year. It was published by Walker Books last year and has been embraced by teachers and students. It was inspired by my daughter who was adopted from Ethiopia. Shortly after our return I found her drinking from a puddle in our driveway. It is about water, it's scarcity and the different ways we get it around the world. It is also about loss, hope and love.
Please visit my website for additional information and teaching materials that accompany the book. I also have a short film to share about me collecting water with the local girls in my daughter's birth village.
Recently, a fourth grade class was inspired to raise money for a well in Uganda after reading A Thirst For Home. So wonderful.
