Mary Help?!

My 84 year old mother is tired of drama and bad news, and wants to read something funny or heartwarming. She's exhausted Nicholas Sparks; she liked Girls of Ames, and Summer at Tiffany....

Can anyone suggest some titles that are light-hearted, and well-written that she might like? Please email m.paiser@yahoo.com or respond here?

Thousands of thanks,
The oldest daughter

Heidi Mary,

I'd recommend Prayers for Sale by Sandra Dallas. It has several stories within the story and ultimately a happy ending.

Iris How about The Unwanted Wife. Or Austenland. Those are light, maybe not too funny, but light and sweet (ish).

Tammy If your mom liked Nicholas Sparks, she might enjoy Ann Gabhart. I read The Outsiders by her, which takes place in a Quaker community in the early 1800s. It was sweet. There are war scenes, but it is a romance.

David TheDM Lighthearted, funny, well-written, happy endings... but otherwise not like the authors you mentioned: the Jeeves books by P.G. Wodehouse. Start with "The Code of the Woosters" and then "The Inimitable Jeeves."

Glenn Goettel This is all that's left, here?
Finally took courage in my hands, and watched the "movie". Texture and emotional content were near to dead on. That funny little storybook, "A Princess of Mars", changed lives and put men on the moon. It's a psychedelic mushroom of Henry Ford America that transcends time and space and love itself. The texture (sensuality) of the battle scenes is straight from a mind full of Burroughs.

Rob I would recommend some books that Fannie Flagg Wrote, "Standing in the rainbow",and "Welcome to the world babygirl", Both were pleasant surprises.
