P.E. (eric2014) | 54 comments I'm embarrassed to say that in the process of getting an author account to add to my normal reader account, my display name has changed (I think) to match exactly the name as it appears on my book. Is there a way to change it so it just displays as "Eric" again without breaking the link to my book or do I have to live with it? I couldn't find any help in the GR help library. Thanks.

Hi Eric. As long as your author profile is active, you should be able to change your name back on your regular profile. I just clicked 'edit profile' and it gave me a message that this is my display name for posting and if I wanted to make a change to my author name, I nneded to go to my author profile. I hope that helps!

Oh. I did what you suggested on my regular profile and it changed my name back. I thought I read something with the author profile that said if I didn't have the name exactly like the book, it would disable the link. It looks like it worked, though. Thanks for the help!

P.E. (eric2014) | 54 comments Actually, I don't think it worked. The name keeps switching back. When I change it on my author profile, it changes the author name for the book itself on Goodreads. I guess I'm stuck being P.E. from now on. :-(

You want to change your user profile, not your author profile. You'll know this is the right one because it will tell you that it isn't changing the author info.

I tried. I changed it on that one and it changed the display, but then it changes back. I'm not sure if it changes back when I go into my author profile to look at it or if it's a timed thing. I changed it back and forth five times yesterday and it always comes back. It's like those bogeyman socks everyone is talking about. Spooky.

P.E. (eric2014) | 54 comments BTW, I just changed it again before that last message. I will not go into my author profile and I'll wait and see how long it lasts.

Well, seems to be working now... Of course, that may be because you invoked the curse of the bogeyman socks. ;)

We'll see how long the power of the socks can hold out against the Goodreads Goblin.

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 200 comments Don't make fun of the eGoblins. They are mischievous creatures! They're also the ones who insert typos in our text while we're sleeping. That's why no matter how many time we edit our books, there's always some hidden. :P

Ah, that would explain it, then. I suppose I can now cross that mystery off my list. Thanks, G.G. Anyone selling anti-GR Goblin trinkets?
