It is. I think I'm right in saying that the third in the series is now out, hence the offer on the first this weekend.

Congratulations to local novelist Nina Allan, who has just secured a two book deal with Titan books, who have acquired rights to her novel The Race, which they will be publishing in a new and expanded edition in both the UK and the US next summer.

They will also be publishing Nina’s second novel, The Rift, in 2017.

This success builds on Nina’s recent nomination for the Novella Award for her book, The Harlequin.

You can read more about Nina’s work at http://www.ninaallan.co.uk

Nina isn't on FB or Goodreads but you can contact her on her website if you want to get in touch.

I've been talking with our Devon Book Club friend and supporter, Tom Vowler, about his latest project. Such an interesting collection and approach, so I asked him to send us details. Here is what he has sent me. Enjoy.

Hello
I'm doing something a little different for my fourth book, which is being crowdfunded by the lovely folk at Unbound.
Here's a video I made to explain. https://unbound.co.uk/books/dazzling-...

Have a watch, and do consider one of the lovely rewards on offer, especially the one where I hand-deliver the book and read you its opening story, preferably by a fire. Or lunch with me and my agent, which will involve a drink or several. Or have a character in the book named after you.

Here's a little appetite-whetting blurb:
A brother returns to Dublin from exile to stir up the past. A macabre performance in the bowels of a Parisian museum must be seen to be believed. Lovers torn apart by heroin confront their loss in wildly divergent ways. A severely disabled husband struggles with the permission he has bestowed. A credulous lover finally faces the crimes of her partner. A father hopes his son never tires of their pilgrimage. And a Gazan widower observes his daughter blossoming amid the carnage of war.

By turns tender, brutal and darkly humorous, the stories in Dazzling the Gods are furnished with fraternal affection, climate change, artificial intelligence and the contrails of lost love. Sensual and shocking, lyrical and haunting, these tales are a curation of all things human, from the exultant to the diabolical.
So there it is. What's more: You will be able to hold in your hands a book that wouldn't have existed without you. And should the book not reach its target, all pledges are returned.
Warmest of wishes
Tom

Chris Tetreault-Blay | 10 comments Hi guys! My newest release, 'House Of Courtenay', was released for Kindle and in paperback last week on Amazon. It is my first self-published effort, comprising three of my short horror stories under one roof.

For this weekend only, to celebrate a week since its release, I am giving the book away for FREE for Amazon Kindle (link below). For anyone interested in trying some chilling tales, please feel free to download and leave a review after reading.

As I type, House Of Courtenay is currently sitting at #9 in the Free Horror Short Stories chart on Amazon, which I'm thrilled about!

Thank you in advance for anyone who downloads my book

Chris Tetreault-Blay | 10 comments Hi guys, just a quick update on my current work, if anyone is looking to try a new horror read...

On April 29th I released my latest novel, 'The Sowing Season'. This is the second book in my Wildermoor Apocalypse trilogy and the sequel to my debut, 'Acolyte'. It is available for Kindle and in paperback from Amazon on the below link:

www.amazon.co.uk/Sowing-Season-Wilder...

Speaking of 'Acolyte', this week I parted ways with Bloodhound Books, the guy who published my debut last year. I have regained the rights to the book and will be repackaging and re-releasing it myself, hopefully within the next couple of weeks.

Michael Jecks (michaeljecks) | 3 comments I've not had time to come back to GoodReads for a while. This has been a tough year so far, with work, death, and now GCSEs to contend with in the house!

I've had three books launched through Endeavour Press: ACT OF VENGEANCE, which is a modern spy thriller that's hit the best seller lists. Endeavour have also launched my NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM and FOR THE LOVE OF OLD BONES, two collections of short stories. All three are ridiculously cheap on Kindle, or a bit more as print on demand.

I've also released my first book with Severn House in the last month. This is REBELLION'S MESSAGE, which is winning some great reviews too. It's a crime/political caper set in the time of Bloody Mary, and is the first of a new series - the second has already been commissioned.

In August I've the third in my Vintener trilogy, looking at Crécy, Calais, and finally Poitiers. These stories seem to be doing very well, even though I've stepped well outside my usual comfort zone of Devon!

If you read any of these, do please put a review up here on GR. It helps no end with sales to be able to point to reviews.

Happy reading!

I am delighted to share some news about the debut novel of one of our local Devon writers, Sam Carrington, which is launched today.

I met Sam last week and am pleased that Devon Book Club can help to raise awareness of her work.

To celebrate the launch, Sam is donating an e-book of Saving Sophie for our giveaways - watch out for details - coming soon.

Sam lives in Devon with her husband and three children. She worked for the NHS for fifteen years, during which time she qualified as a nurse. Following the completion of a psychology degree she went to work for the prison service as an Offending Behaviour Programme Facilitator. Although she has left the prison service, her experiences within this field inspired her writing and her first novel, psychological thriller, SAVING SOPHIE is the result.

http://amzn.to/2a7FO8m . Blurb: A teenage girl is missing. Is your daughter involved, or is she next?
Your daughter is in danger. But can you trust her?

When Karen Finch’s seventeen-year-old daughter Sophie arrives home after a night out, drunk and accompanied by police officers, no one is smiling the morning after. But Sophie remembers nothing about how she got into such a state.

Twelve hours later, Sophie’s friend Amy has still not returned home. Then the body of a young woman is found.

Karen is sure that Sophie knows more than she is letting on. But Karen has her own demons to fight. She struggles to go beyond her own door without a panic attack.

As she becomes convinced that Sophie is not only involved but also in danger, Karen must confront her own anxieties to stop whoever killed one young girl moving on to another – Sophie.

A taut psychological thriller, perfect for fans of The Girl on the Train and I Let You Go.

Chris Tetreault-Blay | 10 comments Hi guys! I know it's been a while since I checked in so just thought I'd drop in with a quick update to explain what's been happening in my absence.

For a few months I was tirelessly working on my new novella, which was released at the end of last month. 'Blackgang: The Trickerjack Trail' is a collection of a few brand new short stories, tied together by one central character who appeared in my 'House of Courtenay' release - Hell's own free agent of the living soul trade, known as Trickerjack.

The stories in the new book expand on the history of Trickerjack, tracing his roots to the village of Blackgang on the Isle of Wight. It serves almost as a prequel and sequel to the original story that appeared in House of Courtenay.

What's more, along with two other of my books, the Kindle version of 'Blackgang' is FREE from Amazon this weekend until end of Sunday (link below).

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Blackgang-Tr...
My debut 'Acolyte' is also going out for FREE Sunday (14th August) until Tuesday.

I'm currently on a bit of a writing break, but have found time to start a new side project, a blog site dedicated to my love for retro video gaming.

(And breathe...)

Hope to touch base again and be a little more active very soon!

Jane Jago | 37 comments Aaspa's Eyes is now live on kindle. It's an everyday story of slavery, obsession, and victimisation. Balanced, I trust, by the warmth of affection and hope.

Aaspa's Eyes

If Aaspa was human having blue eyes wouldn't matter. But she isn't, so it does. And when she finds out how she came by the colour it rocks the foundations of her world. Can she emerge from the web of spite and rumour with her head held high? Or will her enemies manage to use the secret to lever her over the edge into insanity?

It is indeed a very new book. Went live yesterday.

As to me, I'm a pretty new author. I have four books on kindle. Three fantasy and one whodunnit. I live in mid-Devon (in what some of my friends are rude enough to call the arse end of nowhere) with my husband and my dog. I'm lucky enough to be retired and able to at last indulge in my passion for writing. And that's it in a nutshell.

Many thanks for being interested :-)

P.J. Reed (pjreed) Hi to everyone at the Devon Book group! At the Killerton meeting I reported that my new wicked, dark poetry book 'Pretty Wicked Creatures' was coming and I am now pleased to report it is now available on Kindle from Jaded Books Publications :) I loved their creepy cover design and it was a great pleasure to work with Jaded Books.

The blurb-

In this collection, P.J. Reed has gathered together mistresses of the macabre, wicked and downright dangerous to create a spine-chilling collection of dark horror poetry. Within these pages you will discover a bloodcurdling selection of poems ranging from the darkest side of romance to contemporary psychological and terror poetry that will leave you uneasily looking over your shoulder.
The heroines in this collection are the strong, angry women taken from modern urban myths and old world legends who hunt in a darker world, stalking their human victims through the centuries.
Beautiful women get away with murder, you have been warned.

Reviews are always paramount to selling books and I was very grateful to receive a review already from Azazel (25/08/16) who wrote,

'I really enjoyed this. The poetry is wicked sometimes sinister, sometimes strange and sometimes downright scary. The poems involve the women from urban myth and ancient legends that you don't want to meet. They are bad, they are deadly and they are after you. Women with a really bad, killer attitude.
In this book, you are introduced to many women included the delicious and deranged Bloody Mary, Lilith the predator's predator and the mysterious lady in black.
I particularly liked the way P.J. Reed used different poetry styles, each style suiting the actions of the antiheroine she was writing about.'

Kathy Shuker (kathyshuker) | 523 comments My third novel, That Still and Whispering Place by Kathy Shuker has just been published. It's another character-driven mystery, this time set in Cornwall. This is the blurb:

The tragedy tore them apart. How does a family survive the loss of a child?
Alone again, desperate to pick up the pieces of her life, Claire returns to Bohenna, the small Cornish village where she grew up, married and had her children. It’s five years since they all left, six since nine-year-old Gilly disappeared without trace, taken by a summer visitor.
Old resentments run deep though and not everyone is pleased to see her. Bohenna’s an insular place, all gossip and rumour and intertwined lives.
And what if Gilly wasn’t taken by a tourist? Claire's increasingly convinced she never left the village at all…

This book is available as a paperback and across multiple e-platforms. And I'll be at the Harbour Bookshop on Saturday from 11 am signing copies. It would be great to see you there if you can make it. :)

HI all
I've allowed a just over the border into Cornwall author to make you an offer (as his partner is a frequent contributor).

Here's an interesting offer for you - a free e-book for all you crime/thriller fans. If you enjoy it you are asked to post a review on Goodreads and/or Amazon. The book will be published on 14 November. No time pressure - but reviews to be posted after 14/11 and before Xmas if possible. Let me know if you are interested.

Frank Westworth is a local author - well, literally yards over the border in Cornwall but we'll forgive him that as he and his partner have been regular contributors to Devon Book Club. Frank shares several characteristics with his literary anti-hero, JJ Stoner: they both play mean blues guitar and ride Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Unlike Stoner, Frank hasn't deliberately killed anyone. Frank lives near Bude, with his guitars, motorcycles, partner and cat.

THE STONER STORIES anthology collects the first five JJ Stoner quick thrillers and includes an all-new, previously unpublished story, SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP.

This collection reveals the shadowy secrets of covert operative JJ Stoner, who uses sharp blades, blunt instruments and his innate persuasiveness to discreetly resolve tricky situations for the British government.

The six self-contained stories in this collection follow Stoner’s progress, from his final days as a serving soldier to his first private contract, and into the shadow land of the deniable asset. Only one thing is absolutely inevitable: eventually, everybody dies.
And there’s more exclusive material in this anthology – an insight into the author’s inventive methods of dealing with death, and an intimate encounter with an ice cold killer…

THE STONER STORIES is published on 14 November 2016 in ebook and paperback:
£1.99 ebook: www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M6ZZEYH/
$1.99 ebook: www.amazon.com/dp/B01M6ZZEYH/
£5.99 paperback: TBC

Sneak preview from SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP:
‘I’m here for the music. For the festival. And the only baggage I carry is that, which you are welcome to examine as you will. No weapons. None at all.’ His smile was a gentle smile of innocence.
‘You’re a musician as well as a murderer, Mister Stoner. We have no problem with either talent.’ Again she smiled, a radiance matching his own in its insincerity. ‘And we’re both of us – all of us – aware that in the same way you’ll be able to find an instrument should you decide to play something, so you’ll be able to find a weapon should you decide to kill someone.
‘We have no problem with the music. Just the other thing.’

Reader feedback for the Stoner Stories:
‘This book surely packs a punch. The writing is bold and blunt, with horrific things said in a matter of fact way. It sends a shiver down your spine.’
‘Wildly witty and effortlessly accomplished. Stoner is a virtuoso with both his hands and with silenced firearms.’
‘Imagine an intimate encounter between Jack Reacher and the girl with the dragon tattoo: that’s JJ Stoner and the Killing Sisters.’
‘Gritty story-telling at its best, with graphic (but well-written) sex and a plot that fires from the hip.’

Jane Jago | 37 comments I have a brand new novel out today.

Set in a fictionalised Devon village just downriver from Totnes, Shall we gather at the river? is a thriller with a twist.

See for yourself for 99p or free on KU.

...for a moment the silence was blissful. Then the screaming started...

The body of a young woman is found floating in a Devon river; she has been beaten and tortured, then strangled and discarded.

Finding out who she was, and why she died, is only the beginning of an increasingly violent and disturbing trip into a world of vicious sadism and routine abuse.

Writing team Leo and Mike Johnson will be lucky to get out of this one with all their fingers and toes.
