Lisa Genova made a big name for herself when she published her debut novel called Still Alice. Still Alice followed the story of a woman who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and it touched the hearts of millions of people, first in book form and recently as a film. She followed this big hit up with two more novels, Left Neglected and Love Anthony which also dealt with other neurological conditions.

Genova’s qualifications for writing these books come from her Harvard Education in Neuroscience and she does a great job educating us while still entertaining us. Her latest book, Inside the O’Briens has been a big success. It tells the story of a family who are dealing with a diagnosis of Huntington’s disease. Genova’s strength as a writer comes from her ability to create very real characters in real families. These are people we can relate to and learn to care about. Her books typically bring up ethical issues which make them great to discuss in book clubs.

Inside the O’Briens has recently been named one of Gooodread’s hottest titles for the summer. So get yourself a copy and join us for a conversation about this engaging novel.

Karen (karen1278) | 428 comments Despite this book discussing a serious medical condition I'm enjoying "meeting" the O'Briens. I'm half way through the book and they are so real to me. She had me from sentence one "Damn woman is always moving his things."
