This is the thread for Chapter 6 of Seveneves. I hope you're all enjoying it so far, let us know all your thoughts :) (but no spoilers for later parts of the book please!)

Nearly at the end of Part 1!
What do you think of the first third?

So, the first third has been pretty interesting. I like the fact that we're following both people in Space on Izzy and also the people like Doob on Earth. I still feel like there should be waaay more of a public outcry against the fact that the Earth is destined to become uninhabitable soon, but I do like all the other ways it is so far written.

The pacing of the book feels good to me so far, We get to see different parts of the society and see snippets from the people in both Space and Earth situations. I think there's a lot of pressure on the people in Space, so finally seeing one of them cry was (a bit random) and kind of believable at least.

I'm also intrigued by the big Space-Ice lump thing that Sean is working on... I have a feeling that the people in Space are going to face a lot more potential problems than just water and it's cool that he decided to fly up there and sort it out himself seeing as NO ONE else in the whole Human population seemed to be giving a damn, they're all just carrying on like hey ho!?

On the whole I have a few quibbles with the characters feeling truly believable thanks to the amount of science-stuff taking over and not letting them become the main focus. In terms of a 'scenario' book this works because it shows many logistics of how you could do a certain thing and many of the possibilities which would happen, but in terms of the 'reality' of this situation I feel like it's a pretty unbelievable human reaction.
