Read it almost a year ago. An interesting book, very very funny in the beginning, somewhat lags in the middle [according to me], later catches up. It was an enjoyable experience. There are lots of quotes too, which catch you eye and invade your mind.

Chapter 3 & 4

(view spoiler)[D'Artagnan met Treville and his famous musketeers. D'Artagnan was very cleverly denied admission into Musketeers but it was sad and fun (I know that sound stupid) at the same time. While poor kid was trying to impress Treville, thd latter too him took him to be a spy for Cardinal.

Also how Treville treated his famous musketeers was admirable. He was strict with them at first but when he came to know the truth he became softer. And showed a kinder side to us.

But the best part was how D'Artagnan met or more precisely ran into three musketeers and earned himself three duels with men who he regards so greatly. (hide spoiler)]

Am yet to read how his meetings with the musketeers went.:)

I'm reading the unabridged version.. Very detailed descriptions. Chapter 3..

Don't read abridged now. Go for the whole thingy. It can be appreciated only then. The abridged version just passes over the humor - subtle as well as overt.
After the abridged version I had given it 2 stars, but after reading the whole last year, I upped by another 2 stars. Would have been 5 star, but for the wee bit of dragging chapters in the middle.

Smitha, I myself prefer unabridged versions of classics. I had to read Musketeers for school test and time was short so I got the abridged of this one.

I am still at chapter 5. Am confused whether mine is abridged or original. So waiting to check it out.

original is about 1000 pages

786 pages

I think mine is unabridged. My ebook has 67 chapters so I think that am reading unabridged.

Finally I'm starting this one... Have read the shorter version during my school days... excited to see how this would be.!!

Ive restarted. Mine is unabridged. Loving it.

At chapter 12. Duke of Buckingham has appeared. Am loving it but going at a real slow pace.

What do you think about d'artagnan and his character?

I am in chapter 26 and am loving d'artagnan. I like his earnestness , honesty , ardour in love and above all his adventorous spirit.

I love that he is so arrogant and yet never realises it :D

Arrogant. ! Well who isn't at that age? .D

Did anyone finish?

I am 62% done with it (kindle). After a very brisk start, it slowed down and only now started to pick up pace. Kind of very different from sensibilities of our times..

I loved the satire, especially the first half. Found the middle a bit dragging.

Were it not for this buddy read I'd never have read this. It was worthwhile.
