I just finished a book that is geared for the tween and up set. It isn't too bad, but I found that the author seemed at times to think that you should just know certain things. The book started out as short stories in fantasy mags. I find that some authors (new and established) sometimes do that. They either assume that you have read the magazines or they have over zealous editiors who read the magazines. Either way, it's annoying. It also bothers me when an author makes up words and/or uses real foreign language words and does not provide enough context or a glossary of terms.

Does this annoy the rest of you too? Or am I just being a crank?
