I really wanted to read this after reading Ready Player One, and the protagonist is a high school student, so I slotted it in here for high school week. Although very little of the action actually takes place in a high school, the concerns are very much teenager - romance, family, saving the world, etc.
I didn't like this book nearly as much as Ready Player One - the pop culture references often felt forced rather than delightful, and the drama felt super emotionally manipulative. It was fun, and I definitely didn't hate it (I listened to the audiobook, and anything Wil Wheaton narrates is fun and entertaining). But I wanted more from it.

Three stars.
