30.6 - Sandy/Kristi's task: Oh, the Places You'll Go

Brian Jay Jones with Stories from Jonestown -- the author's name must stand alone in the place name

A:Kraken by China Miéville
B: Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress by Sijie Dai (set in China)

OR
A book by Stuart Woods and a book set in a forest?

Book A: The Rhetoric of Death by Judith Rock
Book B: Cujo by Stephen King
The second book is set in the town Castle Rock, Maine

OR
A book by Stuart Woods and a book set in a forest?"
Sheila, I was looking at those same combinations!

Book A: Tithe by Holly Black
Book B: One Second After by William R. Forstchen which is set in Black Mountain, North Carolina

Rebecca my real life bookclub just read One Second After. I thought I would hate it but it turned out to be a VERY powerful book that sure makes you think. I would highly recommend it.

The Other Daughter by Lisa Gardner
with
24 Hours by Greg Iles, which is set in Jackson, MS. The GR description does not clearly state that fact but I have found links that do. Book description on this page: http://www.amazon.com/24-Hours-Greg-I...
and overview on this page:
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/24-ho...
Also, if these books are approved, should I submit those 2 links for Jackson, MS when I submit the task for points?
Thanks!

Oooh, thanks Shelia. I will definitely move it up the pile then for sure!

I think you need a author with a name Jackson to use Jackson, MS for your second book

I'm a goofball. I meant to post this.
Cold Blooded by Lisa Jackson

Need approval for these two books :
Book A : The Call of the Wild by Jack London
Book B : Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding (set in London)

Learning to Die in Miami: Confessions of a Refugee Boy by Carlos Eire paired with a book set in Ireland?
Thanks!

and then read either Stories from Jonestown or A Thousand Lives: The Untold Story of Hope, Deception, and Survival at Jonestown?

If you provide a link, like the Wikipedia article on Los Angeles that states that Los Angeles is "often known by its initials L.A.," then yes that will work.

You can, but the book must be set on the moon for at least half the book.

A:Kraken by China Miéville
B: Balzac and the Little Chinese Children by Sijie Dai (set in China)"
That works.

No, sorry, the place name would have to be separate words. So, for example, you could read something by Peter James and a book set in James City County, Virginia, which includes Williamsburg.

OR
A book by Stuart Woods and a book set in a forest?"
Robin Cook works with Cook County, Illinois, which includes Chicago. When you post, you just need to include a reference like that Wikipedia article to link the two.
Your example of Stuart Woods would work, too, as long as at least half the book is set in the woods. This one would work: A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail ;-)

Book A: The Rhetoric of Death by Judith Rock
Book B: Cujo by Stephen King
The second book is set in the town Castle Roc..."
Excellent connections, Fandury!

Yes, that works! I have that one on my TBR list. After seeing Sheila's comments I might use this combo, too!

That makes a LOT more sense.... ;-)
Yes, Lisa Jackson would work with 24 Hours. You just need to explain the connection between the books and include one of the links you provided when you post so DLMRose doesn't have to go looking for the setting.

Need approval for these two books :
Book A : The Call of the Wild by Jack London
Book B :."
You've got the right idea but, unfortunately, The Call of the Wild has the genre "children's" on its main page and is only 172 pages long. Any book with the genres "children's" or "kids" on it main page must be 300+ pages to get points for a 30-point task.
As Jessica pointed out a few posts later, The Sea Wolf by Jack London would work with Bridget Jones's Diary.

You're right, Jessica. The Call of the Wild won't work, but The Sea Wolf will.

and then read Corduroy Mansions.
It's set in London. :-)"
Corduroy Mansions will work with a Jack London book, just make sure it's not tagged "children's" if its under 300 pages.

Learning to Die in Miami: Confessions of a Refugee Boy by Carlos Eire paired with a book set in Ireland?"
Good one! Yes, that works. You just need to include a link, like the Eire Wikipedia article showing the connection when you post.

and then read either Stories from Jonestown or [book:A Thousand Lives: The Untold Story of..."
No, sorry, Jennifer. Jones would need to stand alone in the place name.

http://www.bookssetin.com"
Excellent! I'll add that to post 2, too. Thanks, Diane.

That would work.

This would only work if A Town Like Alice is actually set in Alice Springs for at least half the book.

Book 1 : The Painted Veil by W. Somerset Maugham
Book 2 : Persuasion by Jane Austen (set in Somerset)

BOOK 2 = Journey Across the Four Seas: A Chinese Woman's Search for Home - Veronica Li

Read one book for A and one book for B.
Book A: Read a book by an author whose first, middle, or last name is the same as a place name. Ex: Justina Ireland, Julia London, Austin Grossman
Book B: Read a book set primarily in the place identified by the author's name of book A.
Your book's setting may not extend geographically beyond the location in the author's name.
An author named Brooklyn needs a book set in Brooklyn. An author named York could be paired with a book in Brooklyn, NY or a book set in New York state or York, England
Here are a few examples:
If the author's name is a country the book B setting must take place within that named country.
Book A: The City and the City by China Miéville
Book B: The Good Earth set in China
If the author's name is a state, region, province, etc the book B setting must take place within that named area
Book A:Plainsong by Kent Haruf
Book B: Riddley Walker set in Canterbury, Kent
You must provide a link connecting Canterbury to Kent if the location is not clearly mentioned in the book's GR record
If the author's name is a city or smaller municipal unit the book B setting must be in that specific location:
Book A: Soon I Will Be Invincible by Austin Grossman
Book B: Hello, Darkness, set in Austin, Texas.
Book A: Deep Storm by Lincoln Child
Book B: Fangirl, which takes place in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Book A: The Last True Cowboy by Kathleen Eagle
Book B: Under the Mesquite, set in Eagle Pass, Texas
Book A: Killing Moon by Rebecca York
Book B: A Werewolf in Manhattan, set in New York City
This list of places might help: Places
Required: If the setting of Book B is not mentioned in its GRs description or setting metadata, you must provide a link to a reference showing that the book is set in the named location. If it's not obvious, explain the connection between the author's name and the setting.
