Antonieta Contreras | 3 comments Traumatization and Its Aftermath goes deep into the complexities of traumatization and is a practical, comprehensive guide to understanding and overcoming the impacts of adverse circumstances.

In these pages, readers will gain valuable insights into trauma's diverse forms and the importance of understanding traumatization on an individual level. This award-winning book, recipient of the prestigious Best Book Award in the Psychology/Mental Health division, answers questions including 'Why don't some people heal as easily as others?' 'Why do some people experience trauma after 'seemingly insignificant' incidents?' and 'Why does overdiagnosis fail so many people?'

Readers can also find criteria for evaluating their own trauma, information on how to heal from a trauma disorder, and better ways for treating complex trauma. Traumatization and Its Aftermath guides readers through each element of the personalized struggle for survival and offers compassionate and patient explanations on how to shorten this struggle―and even prevent it.
Packed with detailed resources and accessible storytelling, this award-winning book is a must-read for clinicians and anyone looking to better understand the mind, body, and natural ability to heal.

Michael Reed | 1 comments Hello, my name is Michael Reed and I have just published my first book called “The Million Stages of Grief” after losing my wife and both of my daughters in the 2016 Tennessee wildfires. Grief has been a long journey. But there is a purpose for our pain. I hope my words bring inspiration, hope, and comfort.

Thanks for sharing Michael. Grief is tough. Sorry for your loss. I read books on stages of grief. I read Joan Didion’s Year of Magical Thinking … and could not relate. For her, the “lean years” were when they moved into a house previously lived in by an actor who had won an Oscar and left it behind, and there were peacocks on the property vocalizing now and then. Yup, never going to have peacocks on the property. Will never make it to what she calls lean. Can’t relate to taking a year off to grieve as she did. Most of us have a mortgage, and have to flounder on best we can. We recently read Wild, where the author grieved via an in over her head multi-month hike.

David Haskell (daviddeanehaskell) | 3 comments Hi, I’m David Deane Haskell. I’ve written Wounded Angels, a memoir about the lifelong impact of losing my mother under tragic, shocking circumstances—and the decades of despair and addiction that followed. But more than that, it’s a story of deep healing and hard-won hope. If you’re walking a similar path, I’d be honored to share it with you. This is ongoing work for me, with another book coming soon, and I’m grateful to be part of a group that openly welcomes these conversations.

P. Scott | 1 comments I'm Shavaun Scott, a psychotherapist of 30 years and I've written a memoir about my husband's revenge suicide in 2004, the day I told him I wanted a divorce. The book Nightbird: A Memoir, published in May 2025, focuses on my post-suicide trauma response, my healing, and ultimately the reauthoring of my life. It celebrates healing and explains the subtype of suicide that is on the continuum of intimate partner violence.
Nightbird
The book is both personal with clinical information integrated. It is helpful to those who have experienced coercive control, intimate partner violence, or those who seek to understand these issues.
