I just saw this article on Tor's website about New releases in March and I thought it might be nice to create separate Fantasy/Sci-fi topics so that people can let the group know what books are coming up as they come across them.

From that article I'm particularly looking forward to:

Words of Radiance ! I'm a massive Sanderson fan - and the first book, The Way of Kings, was great so looking forward to this tome.

I've also been collecting the Game of Thrones graphic novels, and volume 3 is out in March. Great stuff.

I also note that The Red Knight is up there for Book of the Month this month, and the second book in The Traitor Son Cycle: The Fell Sword is up for release later in March.

There's some other great looking books on there so check it out :)

Yep, Tor.com does this every month. It's always in the last week of a month, sometimes in the first week of the actual month the books come out.
On Mondays they do Fantasy releases, SF on Tuesday, Genrebenders (Parallel Universes, Alternate History, Steampunk etc.) on Wednesday, UF on Thursday and Paranormal Romance on Friday.

There are a lot of interesting things coming out in March.
Regarding The Fell Sword it's already out in the UK, so you should be able to get it already. I already have it on my Kindle and look forward, cause The Red Knight was my favorite book of 2013.

In October The Slow Regard of Silent Things: A Kingkiller Chronicle Novella (The Kingkiller Chronicle) by Patrick Rothfuss will be released. It's a novella set in the Kingkiller universe.

The Name of the Wind was a previous Fantasy book of the month (you can see D&J's thoughts on the book here). It was well received within the group generally, with quite a few moving on to the sequel The Wise Man's Fear.

Yessssss, more Rothfuss!

The Wise Man's Fear is actually one of the few physical copies I'm taking with me to Leiden.

I might try and revive this If Kirsty is ok with that and create a list of big upcoming realeases both confirmed and speculated.
I tend to have a fairly decent list saved of books I'm waiting on so it might be a nice starting point if anyone else wants to add latest release info as well as special editions linked to upcoming releases. Could be an interesting reference point for members.

Andrew Cool idea, Paul :) You seem to be speaking of upcoming releases more than newly released, but I thought I would just throw out there that I was wait-listed on 2 New Fantasy titles from the library, and both are coming my way soon:

A Darker Shade of Magic (A Darker Shade of Magic, #1) by V.E. Schwab A Darker Shade of Magic

The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro The Buried Giant

They both sound like fairly unique and interesting additions to the genre :)

Aside from this I have a rather large cluster of new-and-old-and-upcoming genre releases I am vaguely interested in, but never sure where to go next. Some solid lists and details on upcoming titles could help me get a headstart on reserving them from the library ;)

I just bought The Buried Giant last week so hoping its as good as it sounds. I lap up anything connected to Arthurian myths.

I HIGHLY recommend A Darker Shade Of Magic - read it the other week, and lent it to my friend who also loved it :)

It sounds quite the read. I'll have a look at getting it when my near birthday book buying ban is lifted

message 12: by Andrew (last edited Apr 01, 2015 05:36AM) (new)

Andrew Ah, good news to both :D I read about another book by Schwab called Vicious that sounds REALLY cool in concept (I suppose it might sci-fi, seems to be related to "our world" with the possibility of superpowers).

Sadly my local libraries don't seem to have that one. If I really enjoy A Darker Shade of Magic, I might have to break my "Why am I always buying books when there are countless free ones down the road?" streak ;)

Vicious is supposed to be AMAZING, I want to read that one so badly <3

message 14: by Nara (new)

Nara (greengp01) Vicious is definitely amazing! I love how it deals with moral ambiguity. I feel like it's probs a mix of SFF- which reminds me, how do you even categorise superpower books? Scifi? Fantasy? Not sure...

I would tend to say SF, but I guess they'd also be urban fantasy? Genres are hard D:

message 16: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Good point, Nara! I guess it's easiest to call it its own genre/subgenre, but what if we wanted to nominate one for BOTM? I guess it would depend on the the explanation for the powers. Sometimes they are sci-fi, sometimes they are magical, but sometimes they are both or not explained at all!

Similar for zombies, vampires, werewolves, etc. Depending on the way it is written, it can be sci-fi or fantasy or both. And sometimes superheroes are involved with them too LOL

Kristofer Hanson (kristofermhanson) | 73 comments Archmage just released. Excellent quality as usual from Mr. Salvatore. If you follow the saga of Drizzt, I highly recommend it.

I definitely need to catch up on drizzt. That's the series that got me into reading back in the 90s, got the icewind Dale trilogy for my birthday and never turned back

message 24: by CrowFox Mischief (new)

CrowFox Mischief (crowfox) | 22 comments Hey! I decided it would be nice to revive this thread once more :D.

After looking at this list, I have a few YA books that I'm excited about as well as some of the adult fantasy. If I had to pick, I'm particularly excited about Spin the Dawn and Gods of Jade and Shadow.

I have to play catch-up on the Tensorate and Jade War series, but it looks like there are books in those series as well that are coming out!

** YA TOR Releases

** Fantasy TOR Releases

** Sci Fi TOR Releases

News from Gollanscz :)

"We have some HUGE news!

Christmas has come early for Stormlight fans!

We are thrilled to announce that we will be publishing the epic new book in Brandon Sanderson's #StormlightArchive4 on the 17th November 2020"

Yaaaaaaaaaaas.

message 33: by Mark (new)

Mark (iamjacksprofile) | 65 comments That is exciting, but also a LOOONG time.

Still, impressive since each book is basically 4 or 5 normal books. I'm just finishing my reread of the first 3.
