Savanes | 39 comments Hey!

Here is where you can let us know the book you chose to read with your buddy in March and what are your thoughts. You can find out who your buddy is in the March's Book Buddies Sign Up discussion.

As mentioned just above, let us know what you decided to read with your buddy. Don't forget to share your thoughts about the book after reading it. It will help others decide whether they want to give it a go or not.

Happy reading!

Rachel (hrhrach) | 82 comments Pepperpots and I have a funny to share. We were so surprised ourselves we forgot to post out choice along with what occurred, but in another group we were paired for March and they announce their buddy pairings days before this group. Like my last buddy on here pepperpots and I were both very enthusiastic and both interested in reading a number of books but did both say we had another buddy coming from another group among our commitments to work around. True to our words tho we have already read the first march book (we chose a slightly fluffy ish one on both our want to read lists just to get our toes in the water as buddies) called AN OFFER YOU CANT REFUSE, by Jill Mansell.
Ff a few days later and the pairing here is announced and wala we've been paired again. Knowing other opinions can be fun we hoped the other was ok with this but both saw it as more time to get to all the books we've discussed getting to together.
So anyway well list all that we read however many that ends up being in both groups vs splitting the list and wanted to explain one reason we had time and double the usual minimum of one book to read together for each of the two groups to start with. Small world tho huh? Neither even realized the other was in the other group along with them.
Our second book or our first for this group however you want to look at it we chose (and are well into) A TAP ON THE WINDOW by Lynwood Barclay. The writing style is fast paced and explains back story without sounding like a dry report but instead the info seems to come forth organically. We will report back on this one when done and any others we get read during March when we get to them. Happy reading with your buddies to all of you!!

That's incredible!

Rachel (hrhrach) | 82 comments Are there 2 buddy reads/threads in this group? Bc otherwise I could swear Teneal is the mod on that one so maybe the 3 of us are together in another group. I hate this app; I'm so confused! lol

message 9: by Louise (new)

Louise (stressmagnet) Leanne and I are reading The Small Hand by Susan Hill.
I've just started and I'm sucked in already.

message 10: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 39 comments @Rachel: I'm the mod on this thread. :)

message 11: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hrhrach) | 82 comments Ok that's right and who else is a mod in the group this thread is in? I get my 2 groups I'm most involved in overall and have had the longest confused bc they do things alike and the buddy reads and BOTM get reminders in PM so that's how even on the app I stay involved, but as I've said I finally gave a laptop again which I now have to get in the habit of using. I htg one of those tray tables.
No one pls be insulted as its a compliment bc both are very popular busy active groups who are so well organized!!!

message 12: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 39 comments No worries. I am not offended at all. Teneal is also a mod in this group but not in this thread.

message 13: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hrhrach) | 82 comments Ok so maybe it IS multiple buddy reads in this one group?? I'm gonna investigate on my laptop ASAP lol

message 14: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hrhrach) | 82 comments Not that it matters just curious lol

message 15: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 39 comments Teneal is moderating another group so I think it's in the other. There's not 2 buddy reads in this group. That would be quite confusing.

Teneal | 227 comments Boo!! (Just to confuse you more) hehehe :P

message 19: by Birgit (new)

Birgit Bethany and I will read Schindler's List :) we both had it on our to-read list and I owned it already

message 20: by Leanne (new)

Leanne (littlebunnylibrary) | 53 comments Louise and I have finished reading The Small Hand: A Ghost Story by Susan Hill. We both had pretty similar views on it - it is a good book and Susan Hill writes a good ghost story, but it doesn't compare to The Woman in Black.

Rachel (hrhrach) | 82 comments So far pepperpots and I (yes she has a more typical name she uses in PM just not on the threads) have read the Jill Mansell, An offer you can't refuse which was so so and the Linwood (or Lynwood?) Barclay called A TAP ON THE WINDOW. It was a fairly well paced read and kept our interest...I noticed without discussing ahead and despite what I'm about to say...we both gave it the same rating of 4 stars.
However we both had issues regarding the ending actually the last couple chapters. (The book has very quick short chapters ala James Patterson and Jonathan Kellerman as I recall. ) I don't want to say more than that tho for fear of spoilers except that we both said wed definitely try a couple more of his books but if they all have endings like that we might have to stop.
It's not like some ambiguous ending ala gone girl or anything like that...it was just a bit of overkill...almost literally. And another item or two that we felt was far fetched. If anyone has read it and wants to discuss that in PM so as not to ruin it for anyone who may read it in the future I'd be happy to discuss.
All in all tho we liked his writing style and I'm quite curious to read more by him. Before going on with others I had to read for challenges etc I did start on another by him called the accident and read maybe 3-4 chapters if that but I'm curious to see where it goes!!!

Rachel (hrhrach) | 82 comments Oh and I've been blessed with great buddies lately and this month is no exception. We like a lot of the same types of books and are both willing to try others.
Next up we after taking a few days to catch up on other reads (she's reading hunger games and I read divergent and part of insurgent among parts of others...I liked it!) I am joining her in the book she's reading called FEVER by Mary Beth Keane and then ill pick one we've discussed to read next. We are wanting something with some ethics to discuss or along those lines. We put our feet in with some chick lit and then a mystery to guess at together n now some history so this will be even deeper. Its fun bouncing thoughts off each other!!

message 23: by Pepperpots (new)

Pepperpots Just to add that I've been lucky too. It's great to be paired with someone who's as enthusiastic as I am about books.

message 24: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hrhrach) | 82 comments Aww thx and now if we could end up reading one we could really discuss and possibly debate. Me before you was great for that and Athena and I really both agreed I'd say on how we felt about the dilemmas raised in the book however that did not stop it from being nice to chat about and explain our reasoning both going back to things in our own pasts.
I'm going to try hard to find one that both has a topic like that AND has been highly recommended.
Failing that I don't think I asked..how do you feel about time travel? In a book that's not otherwise very sci fi but for that one element lol
Oh also idk if this may qualify but I would think it has a lot to chat about...have you heard of the returned? By Jason Mott I believe. Has anyone here read that? There's have been commercials all day (I keep tv on in background but when I'm reading i can rewind a show I meant to watch but got Into a book during the first commercial and it's like I'm seeing it for the first time...so ADD or not I hyper focus when I'm reading! ) for a show called Resurrection that starts here tonight on ABC. It sounds sooo much like the summary of the returned I thought wow that was fast; They've made it into a tv show! It kind or reminds me of that show that was on maybe 2 yrs on cable called THE 4400....about ppl who has gone missing over the last 60? Yrs returned in the case of that show all at once in a field despite going missing different lengths of time ago they all came back looking the same age as they were back when they went missing.
In the resurrection and the returned (which also has like 3 prequels or such; I think all are prequels since they're all short and all FREE but suppose one may be another POV or a sequel of sorts. ) THE difference is the ppl returning have been declared dead some many years ago!! It sounds good...I picked it up last wk after grabbing the free additions a month or two ago.
But first to read fever lol just stuff to think about and I figured id post it here to see if anyone's either read it or heard anything good or bad. I haven't looked on GR yet just BN where the reviews tend to be pre teens using the space as instant messenger@@

message 25: by Louise (new)

Louise (stressmagnet) Yup. I was lucky that Leanne picked a book I had been wanting to read for a while. Totally happy with the pairing, was only sorry it was a hectic time and we didn't get a chance to converse more. I'll do better next time, I promise!
