Dseeler | 12 comments The Lightning Thief is a fantasy-adventure novel packed with suspense. If you're in for a good thriller, here's your book. It all starts with a 12 year old boy, Percy Jackson, in his 6th school, Yancy Academy. He has been kicked out of several other schools and blames it on his dyslexia and ADHD. One day, the class sets off on a field trip to the museum to explore the wonders of Greek Mythology. Percy, and his friend Grover, pay no attention to the presentations provided about the Gods and even mock the teacher. Percy is told to step outside by his math teacher, Mrs. Dodds, and then is approached by the question: Where is it? This is where the mystery begins. All of a sudden, Mrs. Dodds transforms into one of the most feared Greek beasts and sweeps down to attack Percy. Mr. Brunner, the latin teacher, adapts to the situation and realizes how huge this event is. He throws the astonished Percy "Riptide", a magical sword, and Percy fends off the beast. It fled the museum, flying away. Later in the story, Percy finds out that he is the son of Poseidon. He then processes the situation on why he was attacked, and realizes he's being targeted for stealing the all-mighty powerful, Zeus' lightning bolt. Percy sets out on an adventure to clear his name and find the culprit who committed the crime. He is assisted by his other half-blood friends and by his father's mystical powers. Will Percy find out who the culprit is? or will he suffer justice even though he is innocent?

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys action-packed content; along with humor and suspense. This book had me on the edge of my seat. I thought it was so cool to see how an ordinary kid could adapt to being the son of the legendary Poseidon. I also thought it was cool how Rick Riordan gave the gods a modern touch. Zeus was dressed in a dark-blue pin striped suit and Poseidon wore leather sandals, khaki Bermuda shorts, and a Tommy Bahama shirt with coconuts and parrots all over.
