Bryce | 5 comments I'm on chapter 16 and I am really liking how Wes and Mackenzie's relationship is going. I also really like how Mackenzie is looking into who Owen is! This is such a good book

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't have wifi when I got home so I read more and I just no words its so amazing and so much action so far this book is fantastic and I'm most likely going to either finish this book either tonight or tomorrow morning and I can't wait!

message 4: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (elluna) | 8 comments I think I'm around chapter 17 right now, and I love this book even more now than I did originally (which is saying a lot, because I loved it from the get-go).

At this stage where I'm at, the plot is beginning to adopt some serious mystery aspects, which is amazing and which really makes the book "unputdownable". Suddenly there's so much going on and your mind goes to all these places, trying to make sense of it all and tie it all together somehow. But the puzzle doesn't fit yet, at least not for me. And as a consequence, I'm suspicious of absolutely everyone ( (view spoiler) ). I missed being this paranoid. It's amazing.

I keep being frustrated with Mackenzie over her lack of communication skills, how she can't really expect for, say, Roland to figure everything out by himself when she's not telling him everything that happens to her in the Narrows. But on the other hand, I'd be paranoid out of my mind if I were Mac, so I'd likely keep things to myself too if I were in her place.

As for Owen, so far my only theory is: "Last night I saw upon the stair a little man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away." That's a kind of theory, right? (Wrong, that's a poem analogy. But I try. :))

Chelsea B | 4 comments Wow!!! I thought that this was good during chapters 1-10, but this picked up! The writing is so beautiful, and I love the mystery that has developed! Ms. Schwab is doing an amazing job!! I have to keep reading!

message 6: by Out_of_Bounds (new)

Out_of_Bounds Reading (outofboundsreading) Up to chapter 10, the story was only beginning and the mystery just started. Now that I am on chapter 20, I am curious about everything and trying to piece everything together. I am trying to figure the Librarians and their actions, but no clue who is doing the erasing. I am suspicious on Wes and Owen, but haven't decided anything yet. Oh and also Carmen, the young Librarian.

message 7: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (elluna) | 8 comments Yes, this book REALLY picks up in around the 50% mark and pretty much stays mysterious and trippy and moderately fast-paced all the way through. I've heard this before I even bought my copy, but I didn't really realize how gripping it would become until I got to experience it for myself (last evening I was promising myself "just one more chapter" for THIRTEEN CHAPTERS before I finally put it down and went to sleep). The pacing is really amazing. As you learn and understand more about the book, so you get to witness more of the action and mystery going on within the Archive and the Narrows (hell, even the Outer). At this point, I'm pretty much sold on anything-Victoria-Schwab.

message 9: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (sweetzoejane36) | 6 comments When Owen entered that novel, my first thought was.. "Here comes the love triangle." and if that happens i'm okay with it, because i like his character so much. He story feels me with a dread that made me sick to my stomach because i so quickly cared for him.

message 10: by Crissie (new)

Crissie Wood (ctwood09) | 6 comments I really like this book. I love all the characters. I don't want to be suspicious about any of them because I love them all, but I know someone has to be up to something. Originally I really didn't trust Wes, but I don't want him to be in on any of it. Roland being the bad guy would be an interesting twist, but I love Roland so I hope not. Basically, I'm just hoping we haven't met the bad guy yet or maybe its Ms. Angelli. There were some things she said that seemed like they were referencing the archive type things (mentioned "archived" somewhere and items holding memories). I don't know I just want to love Roland AND Wes and I feel like one of them has to be up to something. Maybe Carmen, but I like her too... Gurr! I don't know. I'm wondering if there is a way for Regina, Owen, and Ben to magically not be dead anymore...

message 11: by Martina (new)

Martina I can't believe that there's a chance the third book won't be published! I mean there are so many book series out there that are just okay, and get sequels after sequels, and this one, which is actually really well written and thought out might not?
But anyway, this book is SO interesting! I really like her relationships with all the characters. The dynamic between her and Wes is super entertaining and I really liked her encounter with the old man!
Her grief is so touching and so real I get the chills, *sigh* I'M JUST SO IN LOVE WITH THIS BOOK, OK?! Ok...

message 12: by Liv (new)

Liv (oliviareadstoomuch) I'm really starting to like the characters and this world. Mackenzie seems very bright and I love her compassion--not only for her brother, but for the Histories as well. The plot is thickening with Owen and his sister's murder. So far, I think I might know who is trying to block the Histories' pasts but I'll have to wait and see. Love the progress so far!!!!!!! Can't wait to see how it ends!!!

message 13: by cheyenne (new)

cheyenne | 3 comments I just finished chapter 20, and I am absolutely loving it! I've been reading for a couple hours and had to force myself to stop for a few minutes so I could write this!

Whenever Mackenzie talks about Ben, I feel close to tears. It's so heartbreaking. I wish I could reach into the book and bring him back to life. (And Regina, too.)

I like Wesley's character so much - I really hope he's not going to end up being anything but good. I'm not sure how I feel about Roland, though, but I do like his taste in shoes.

Overall, totally in love. I can't wait to finish this book, which I will definitely be doing tomorrow! Or, later today I suppose, since it's nearly 1:30AM. Oops.

message 14: by Emily (new)

Emily Killian (emilyrkillian) | 5 comments Owen is super creepy. anyone humming is creepy. and the narrows is a freaky place where the dead are literally alive. have that with a dead, humming, disappearing, boy and you have your formula for creepy.

for all my thoughts for chapters 11-20 go to my blog http://unicornmeatbooks.wordpress.com...

Kailee (kailee_k) | 2 comments Duuuuuude. It just got like a bajillion times better oh I love iiiiitt.

message 16: by Jbb Lim (new)

Jbb Lim (jbblkh) You know how when all our curiosities starts their engine? By reading Schwab's book! Everything starts popping up with new clues, new ideas, new breaking-of-rules...etc.

Here you can see how I like a little snippet of Roland's background. Moreover, I like how Mac is concurrently bumping into both Wesley and Owen for different outpouring reasons respectively. Both of each shares a frustration that Mac is able to relate to in which I like how Schwabs did it.

Back to Chapter 21! **Woot**

message 17: by Kellseigh (new)

Kellseigh | 3 comments This book has become impossible to put down! The writing is still lovely and I find myself so totally lost in the story that I have to force myself back into the real world to put down the book.

I really want to find out why Owen isn't slipping, and why history is being erased, obviously. I'm excited to go read the last chunk of the book now!

message 18: by Anni (new)

Anni (anneyechelon) | 4 comments I don't know if I should trust Roland. Oh my, I never trought this would be so thrilling.
Hilarious was the part with Wes and Mac's mum. She was like "you must be the guy." and he "you must be the mum." I don't know why but this made me laugh so much.

message 19: by Ditta (new)

Ditta Reads (ditareads) | 6 comments I Really can't put the book down. These chapters just went by in no time and I had to force myself to stop so I could make a post here :) .

The writing and the descriptions are great but in this part I really like most how there are all kind of pieces for the puzzle. And I still don't know who to trust and what to think about everything. Can't fit them together quite jet. But it is highly enjoyable.
And I am really amused by the parts with Wes "guyliner" XD

Anni wrote: "...

This ^^ Those parts are just plain awesome and funny.
And I really like reading the way Mac thinks, it is just nice and convincing.

And every time she lies she is like thinking what makes it a good or a bad lie and it is scary how accurate it is. Somewhere in Victoria Schwab must be a master liar. :P

And now I can't control the urge to read more. It is awesome.

message 20: by Mom2triplets04 (new)

Mom2triplets04 | 4 comments I'm on chapter 23 oops read a little more then this stopping point. I couldn't put it down.

and I'm so confused..

Is Owen dead? Didn't he die from either jumping or being pushed off the roof? Why isn't he slipping?

Need to read on.

message 21: by Nadia (last edited Mar 17, 2014 08:27PM) (new)

Nadia (heartlesstree) *flies past spoilers*

I'm starting chapter 12 and I just wanted to share that I'm adding Owen to the list of shady characters in this book haha. IDK, he came out of nowhere, just like the knife and the person with the crown. WEIRD. I have the suspicion that he's actually the "bad" guy, maybe he's the one that's trying to kill Mac (or maybe it's one of the Librarians that wants to get rid of her ?) or that he's the killer she saw in that memory (yes I'm blaming the new guy for everything). Hopefully I'm wrong.

*continues reading*

message 22: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra | 6 comments I have so many questions! Why isn't Owen slipping? And I can't trust any of the Librarians now, not even Roland. What is going on? And what is the minor problem they're having in the Archives?!? Also, Ms. Angelli is shifty. Why does she know but won't tell? Can it be she's keeping an eye on the place to make sure no one starts digging?
I can't believe I was worried I wouldn't have time to finish this book in time for the liveshow, but holy hell I just got it yesterday and I think I might finish it tonight or tomorrow.

I LOVED THAT PART! Wes' dialogue is always gold. I liked when Mac asked Wes who lived there.
"Well, there's this new girl who just moved in on floor three. Her family's re-opening the cafe. I hear she likes to lie, and hit people."
"Oh yeah? Well, there's that strange goth guy, the one who's always lurking around Five C."
"Strangely hot in a mysterious way, though, right?"

Ashley wrote: "When Owen entered that novel, my first thought was.. "Here comes the love triangle." and if that happens i'm okay with it, because i like his character so much. He story feels me with a dread that ..."

I thought there might be one when he showed up, too, but I hope not. I do like Owen so far, but I've had enough love triangles. xD

My theory from chapter 1-10 is still what I'm betting on. I'm kind of wavering on it, though... new suspicious characters...

message 24: by Katie (new)

Katie A (boldthebookiful) I'm really enjoying it so far. I like the relationship between Wes and Mac, i am worried thought that he is going to betray her somehow or vice versa. My prediction is that ms angelli knows about either the archived or Mac or maybe even how Owen died.

message 25: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (brittanybee38) Ok so chapters 1-10 were sort of a struggle to get through. But can I say I flew through these ten chapters. I am loving this book! I have always prided myself on figuring out mystery books, tv, movies, etc way before even halfway through the book or episode and yet I cannot figure this mystery out. I don't who I trust and I don't trust. It's all so intriguing. I have my theories but no definite answers. This book is definitely keeping me on my toes. I love Mac. The only thing I am a little upset with is the romantic element. I'm not sure it's needed, but then I kind of like that it is in the background right now. This archived world is the main character and I love it. Schwab has done a great job at creating an interesting world.

message 26: by Jena (new)

Jena | 4 comments Chapters 11-20 really amps up the mystery aspect which makes this book very hard to put down. Owen is a very intriguing character and the whole time I was reading about him I just kept wondering why he is not like any other History. Maybe he is not dead anymore and is actually alive. Probably not, but I think that would be cool.

Like most people I have no idea who could be waking up and messing with the Histories. Okay maybe I have one idea and that is Wes. I don't know why, but he just seems like there could be something off about him. Although if it is him then he would have to be working with someone because he does not have the ability to wake Histories up.

message 27: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 13 comments I'm only on page 126, but I'm already wondering whether or not Mac should really be trusting Wes...

message 28: by Melissa (last edited Apr 04, 2014 05:23PM) (new)

Melissa | 13 comments The end of chapter 13...is Ms. Angelli to blame for all of the erasures?

message 29: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 13 comments I'm at the end of Chapter 20, and I must say that the second ten chapters definitely went faster than the first ten. There is so much conspiracy. It has me intrigued.

In particular, I am intrigued by Owen. Will he start to turn? If he doesn't, what's causing him to react so differently to other Histories.

As I read, I can see this book being made into a movie. However, it would probably just disappoint me as books turned to movies usually do. I can see the images in my head. Maybe it's best they stay there.

message 30: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 13 comments I also do not trust Wes. I was relieved when Mac decided not to open up completely to him, remembering she had only known him a few days. The way he charms her parents...it seems like there is something about him that smells rotten.

I definitely thought that it would make a great movie, as well! :D
