Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11204 comments 20.2 - Rookie at the Top - Pamela Su's task: Fun in a Box!

I really enjoy playing board games but I seldom have opportunities to indulge in this pastime. Last month, my friends brought me to a European board game cafe and we played games we had never heard of before!

Please select ONE book from the following options:

1. LADY ALICE: A game of intrigue, flair, bluffing, and mischief. The players are the Baker Street Kids under Sherlock Holmes' tutelage. Henry Morton Stanley has been kidnapped and it is up to the players to deduce the culprit, the time and place of the kidnapping occured and the stolen object.

Read a book that contains one of the following words in the title/subtitle: Intrigue, Flair, Bluff, Mischief, Baker, Street, Sherlock, Kidnap, Who, What, When, Where.

The chosen word MUST match exactly.

REQUIRED: Please state the word used.

2. PACK & STACK: It's moving day! Players have lots of boxes to load and they need to figure out how to fit them on the truck they receive. A fast and funny game where players try to grab someone else's truck while gambling on their packing and stacking skills. Players pay a fine for empty spaces or leaving pieces behind.

Read a book with a truck (or lorry for those who use UK English) on the cover.

REQUIRED: Post your cover.

3. TICKET TO RIDE: A fun cross-country train adventure where players collect cards of various types of train cars that enable them to claim railway routes connecting cities throughout North America.

Read a book where the main character has a hobby that involves collecting items (stamps, butterflies, figurines, etc.) OR a non-fiction book about a collection hobby (as per previous examples).

REQUIRED: If the Goodreads description doesn't make it obvious, please explain how your book fits the task when you post.

Optional: Try out a board game or card game you haven't played before!

Apoorv Moghe (goodreadscomapoorv) | 52 comments Would need approval for either of these two books :

Option 1 : When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops? by George Carlin

OR

When You Ride Alone You Ride With Bin Laden: What the Government Should Be Telling Us to Help Fight the War on Terrorism by Bill Maher

Both titles have the word 'WHEN' in it as per the requirement.

No. None of the words appear in the title or subtitle.

Sherlock is part of the series name and doesn't meet the requirement.

Red Velvet Revenge (Cupcake Bakery Mystery, #4) by Jenn McKinlay ... it's a pick-up truck rather than a larger vehicle.

Oh my gosh. I am so sorry for not replying sooner. I thought I had, but it looks like I only answered it in my head. Oops.

Anyway, YES! Someone who has a comic book collection will work. :)

Yes, I can see stamp collection is a hobby of his for both books. :)

That's hilarious. I'm adding the series to my TBR.

Kristine (kristinekae) | 251 comments For option 2, a truck on the cover.... The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg . The truck is the red vehicle to the left. If you look at the audible version cover you can see it better. I am reading it though, not listening. But, it is the same picture cropped a little bit. Thanks.

Hi Sarah,

No. It must be a word by itself.

Yes, it's a type of truck that does transport things (in this case, transports firemen [yum!] and things to put out fires).

I'll accept it. :)

message 33: by Coralie (new)

Coralie I have just finished reading The Island of Dr. Moreau in which it is mentioned a couple of times that the narrator is a butterfly collector. Would this be sufficient for Option 3?

Coralie Thank you. That solves two problems.

Hi, I will say yes with the condition that you explain the task as you post.

It sounds fine but I am unable to find any references to her specifically collecting plants/mosses as a hobby. I only see references of her being a researcher.

The task only requires that you explain how your book fits the task when you post if it is not obvious from the book description.

Pamela Su (thebluebaroness) | 247 comments Alexis wrote: "Would NOS4A2: A Novel work for Option 3? Charlie Manx collects children for Christmas Land."

I went through the reviews and the book description which describes Charlie as a being who abducts children and uses them in a way for his survival. This does not work as a collecting hobby.
