Leave your thoughts about The Lowland by Jhumpa Lahiri, as you are reading, just make sure you say what chapter & page you are on so that there are no spoilers. This way we can discuss as we read without ruining the ending for anyone

Carly Svamvour (faganlady) | 32 comments OK - I have it on order - don't know when I'll get it, but I'm looking forward to it. I just love Jhumpa's work.

Thanks for putting the book up for discussion.

Carly Svamvour (faganlady) | 32 comments I have the audio - I'm just rippin' to go on it. But I've got to finish up The Round House first.

Mia (miapea) | 359 comments I was all gung-ho about this book (and still am) but I've been so busy lately that I haven't cracked it open for a couple of weeks! This may turn into my late march/early April read! :-)

Carly Svamvour (faganlady) | 32 comments Dunno why, but I had a hard time getting thru the first disk - it certainly wasn't dull, but it just wasn't holding me.

Now, I'm really into it - about halfway thru. I was worried I'd have to play catch-up here, but I see I have plenty of time.

Mia (miapea) | 359 comments So how about we continue our march read into April?

Carly Svamvour (faganlady) | 32 comments Well, like yeah ... nobody seems to be 'there' for this one.

I'll admit it's not as good as her other books, but surely it's something we can discuss.

Mia (miapea) | 359 comments I have been horrible about reading ANYTHING lately! Very distracted by work, taxes, relationships. BUT I am getting back in the swing, so I expect to plow through this and the April read very soon!

Mia (miapea) | 359 comments Okay - page 45! I'm finally reading it! More engaged now that subhash is in America.

Carly Svamvour (faganlady) | 32 comments What went wrong here - a book by Jhumpa Lahiri and only a few posts?

I will admit, it didn't grab me like her other books did, but surely it was worth talking about.

Mia (miapea) | 359 comments I'm still working on it! somehow we were all busy and didn't quite get to it. Trying to catch up because I agree - I love her books.

Carly Svamvour (faganlady) | 32 comments Well, maybe bring it up again - it's a shame to have the thread die like that.

Mia (miapea) | 359 comments Okay I'm finally getting into this! Page 68 - now that it's more about the relationships, I'm more engaged. So Carly and I can soon discuss! Lol

Mia (miapea) | 359 comments Page 155 - catching up to Carly...

Mia (miapea) | 359 comments Okay - I finished! I did have a harder time getting into it -- mainly because I got bogged down in the slightly dry recap of the history of the Maoist movement. But I did get wrapped up in the characters ultmately. I did enjoy watching the characters develop and age, and it was interesting to see how early events and relationships informed multiple generations. Udayan was a character we barely got to know, and yet he was, in many ways, the main character if we look at everyone's emotional development.

Janice Rhee | 1 comments This book took me to a place where I didn't want to go. Deeply sad and heart-wrenching and yet phenomenal all at the same time. She's my new favorite author next to Khaled Hosseini.

Mia (miapea) | 359 comments I do love this author. Glad a few more of us read it! It did go to a place of sadness and not traditional happy endings, which I respect, but it also made me sad.

Praseetha | 1 comments page 155, gauri exploring classes at the university. Udayan's death came as a jolt for me. Till now i am liking this book.
