Rebecca (becksx) For a long time I've been sticking to my predictable YA/NA books but feel it's time to get back into the supernatural/fantasy genres with particular emphasis on vampires and witches.

I'm really picky when it comes to these genres as I can never seem to find anything to sink my teeth into (no pun intended).

Are there any books out there similar to the TV series The Vampire Diaries or The Originals? I'm aware there is the Vampire Diaries series which I will eventually get round to reading!

I love mystery and romance in a novel but find Twilight to be over the top in terms of romance, and I really HATE dystopian novels.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

E.G. Manetti (thornraven) Consider Kim Harrison's Hollow's series. Rachel, (MC) is a witch who hangs out with vampires and a pixie and unwilling gets involved with a demon. First Volume: Dead Witch Walking.

Karen Chance: Dorina series. Dorina (the MC) is 1/2 vampire 1/2 human vampire hunter. The first volume is Midnight's Daughter. An interrelated series is the Cassandra series. Cassie (the MC) is a clairvoyant who is sought after and endangered by the Vampire council for her powers. Touch the Dark. These novels have a romance thread and occasional adult content, but it is a sub-plot.

Bonnie Domrois (bdomrois) | 15 comments I'm partial to Jim Butcher's Dresden Files. Not specifically witches and vampires, but there are fairies , vampires, wizards, werewolves, etc. throughout the books. They are very well written, laced with humor and very likable characters.

Dresden is a modern day wizard for hire in Chicago. He takes jobs where he can all while battling his own demons. A few of the books have a light romantic involvement and some are heavier on specific themes (i.e. book 2 is werewolves.) I have read almost all of them and have yet to come across one that I don't like.

Harry Dresden is a classic tragic character and the places that Jim Butcher creates are vivid and realistic.

Megan (megandurrence) | 98 comments Read the Morganville Vampire series! You might have already, but make sure you read them all! Totally worth it :)

Another good vampire series is the Captive series by Erica Stevens. It's where the world becomes run by vampires and they end up making it almost medieval. I love this one!

Sweep is a great witchy read! It's YA, but it stays true to the wiccan ways and keeps you on your toes!

Magda | 14 comments well you can always try Origins series if you haven't yet ;) I can't say how good they are as they are still on my way-too-long to-read list :D

anyway - Storm Front and other Dresden books are great!
aaand Dead Until Dark - great series, if you've watched True blood - the books are better :D

Guilty Pleasures - quite fun series too

Hounded - with druid as main character and lots of humor and action

oh and how can I forget all of the Cassandra Clare's books simply awesome :D

Broken Aro - fun and fast read, used to be free, maybe it still is? but then again - no vampires or witches, just elves, dragons (in human form) and magic :D where's the fun in that right? ;)

Something Witchy This Way Comes is one of my all time favorites

Craved is has a mixture of all the supernatural beings, I really liked it.

E.G. Manetti (thornraven) Joleene Naylor's Amaranthine vampire series is interesting. Although her vampires are the scarier variety. She has a special edition out of the first 2 volumes - $3.99 for kindle. Amaranthine Special Edition Vol I by Joleene Naylor
