Hi there, everyone. I highly recommend The Stone Man by British author Luke Smitherd. As an author in general, I recommend him, but this book in particular is one of my favorites of all time. It's hard to explain why I loved this book so much, but I will try.
1. It has a unique premise, which doesn't sound frightening in the summary (in fact, it sounds pretty tame) but it manages to scare you with what you don't know about the situation. It's all about the dread, this one.
2. It is a slow burner that builds the tension up to a crazy level. By the end, I was left feeling slightly stunned.
2. The characters aren't cliched, perfect heroes or villains, they are flawed; they are human.
3. This book doesn't seek to answer things for you. In other words, it's a thinker with an open ending and you will be left with questions (some of them probably self-reflective and slightly uncomfortable) at the end. It had me asking myself what I would do in the given situation, and over a year later I still can't give an answer. So, yeah - don't expect everything explained and wrapped up neatly with a little bow on top.
The amazon link is http://www.amazon.com/The-Stone-Man-S.... He recently had it published in print as well, so you newer readers will have options. Even though I own a copy on my Kindle, I will probably end up ordering a physical copy in the future.
A disclaimer: Although I posted this in sci-fi, it is a sci-fi thriller. I'm guessing if you are looking at sci-fi recs though, a little horror won't dissuade you. :D
...I did a better job here than I did in my actual review so I will be copy-pasting. Don't mind me. lol
And if you read this on my recommendation (please do) and enjoy it, feel free to message me so we can talk about it. I need people to talk about it with.
