Anyone else experiencing a reading slump right now? I've been in one for the past two weeks, and I'm finding it pretty hard to shake. I'm thinking it may be the result of being stuck in the middle of an 800 page book, which seems pretty daunting at the moment. Does anyone have any advice of how to break one?

Sam (sam222) Try taking a break from the 800 page book, read a smaller book maybe two. Maybe then you'll be able to finish the chuncker

Thanks! I'll definitely give that a try - I've actually been thinking about picking up a smaller one for the past few days.

I seem to be in a reading slump too and I can't figure out? Of course I am busy with school at the moment, studying, going to classes, projects to work on.

I know exactly what you mean. My 3rd quarter ends next week and all of my teachers are trying to cram in a last minute test or project. I feel like I've had so little time to read recently, and when I do find a few spare moments, I can't seem to concentrate on the book. There's always some sort of distraction, whether it's my phone, a tv show, etc.

Blair (ohheyblair) Currently, I'd say I'm in a "reading hangover" (meaning I can't move on from an amazing book because I know any book I read after it won't be the same.) and that's kind of like a reading slump. My advice would be to 1. ask for book recommendations and see if anything catches your interest. 2. Don't read anything for a while. Let's face it, sometimes we just need a break and 3. Rekindle your love for reading by reading a book you know you'll enjoy no matter how many times you read it. I hope some of these tips help when dealing with a reading slump. Happy reading.

Thanks, Blair, that's really good advice! Just out of curiosity, what book were you reading that sent you into your reading hangover (the term should definitely catch on)?

I hope it does! I've mentioned this book in other group discussions, it's that good! It's called Making Faces by Amy Harmon. I've been recommending this book to everyone for the past week. I swear it's one of my favorites of the year so far.

That is good advice Blair. I have decided to challenge myself to read and finish four books a month for the rest of the year I think that should help me get out of my reading slump or hangover as we are now calling it:)

Making Faces looks amazing! I'm definitely going to give it a try, and maybe give myself a reading hangover as well. Maybe it'll help bring me out of my slump.

Oh my gosh. That would make my day! When you do get to read it, I hope you love it as much as I do. Tissues are highly recommended and needed!

Thanks for the heads up! It's always handy to have a box nearby for such emergencies...

Any time I am stress or upset about something I turn to my books. To me they are the best kind of medicine

Tammy Davis (portia2012) | 8 comments I go through this on occasion. I have not done much reading in awhile and just recently started again. I go through cycles. I think it is just like everything else and we need a break on occasion
