Missy G | 15 comments What motivatesbme most to read is loneliness and learning something is just a plus i was asked recently whats my favorite thing to do, besides grandbabies, reading. They said how can you if you're upset? I said that it cures my upsets to read or to write. But it is such a rich and rewarding activity, truly. Im recently coming slowly out of a relationship and I've been inspired to read and write more. My heart starts to ache so I read or I even get into more deeply, a historical novel thus inspiring me to research more and by then , it's 3 am. It's a hard time but I need another good book, I mean magnetic! Warrior OR viking type, dont say Bernard Cornwell I've read all of them (tears)...

Darcy (drokka) | 80 comments If you're looking for action/adventure types may I suggest Robert Low. He's got two series, one about Vikings that begins with The Whale Road and another set during the Scottish Wars of Independence; the first being The Lion Wakes

Eileen Iciek | 462 comments If you are looking for books that can really draw you in, you cannot go wrong with Diana Gabaldon's Outlander (Outlander, #1) by Diana Gabaldon series. I put off reading them for years, somewhat dismissive of the idea of time travel mixed with historical fiction. But I was so very wrong.

Hilda Reilly | 137 comments One of the reasons I enjoy reading is because it can give a greater insight into human nature. We never really know other people completely; there's always so much we prefer to keep hidden. The way characters are depicted in novels allows one to enter that normally 'out of bounds' area.

I second "The Outlander" series. I can't wait for book eight due in June or July this year.

Don't shy away from the time travel aspect of the book. Having a 1945s, ex-WWII field nurse being able to explain the herbs/medicines, ailments and things in lay terms versus 1745 terms is a boon to the tale's series. In fact, much of 1745 Scotland is able to be related by Claire's (nurse) view points.

I looked up many of the historical references while reading this series and all are accurate, so you will have fun researching the research.
