Thomas Saywell Has anyone else heard about the new LOTR game coming out later this year? It's called 'The Shadow of Mordor' and looks like it has some pretty epic gameplay. But what's got me thinking is the storyline - or at least, all that's been revealed in the first trailers.

When Sauron/the Necromancer returns to Mordor (after 'fleeing' from Dol Guldur), he assaults the human outpost that is there. A Ranger named Talion is one of the ones killed (along with his entire family, apparently). But Talion is saved by an unknown spirit and comes back as a half-wraith/half-human. (This gives him some powers that look like they'll be awesome fun to play with.) Apparently, Talion and the spirit 'share a body and similar goals', so work together - but that was only conjecture in a preview.
What I wonder is how this will fit in with Tolkien's mythology? The game-makers have said that they're doing everything they can to make this as faithful to Tolkien's works as possible... but would Tolkien have ever written in a 'living wraith'? Or had a human come back from the dead?

What does everyone think?

Lela Blyler | 2 comments I'm not really sure how it would have fit into Tolkien's world, but this game looks amazing. I feel like the story isn't completely outrageous, although the half wraith half human thing does seem a unlike Tolkien. What concerns me is how they are going to play that storyline into the big picture without altering anything too much. I can imagine that a battle with Sauron/ the Necromancer has to come up at some point, but there is no way that Talion can come out on top without altering Tolkien's storyline in some way. All that being said, I have the game on preorder. The gameplay, plus the chance to spend any more time in Middle Earth was too much of a draw for me,

Michael (michaeldiack) | 13 comments Yeah the game looks great. I really enjoyed the War in the North also.

I still play BFME2 with my mates using Hamachi network, it's still one of our favourite games (plus Age of Empires 2 HD). I hope they can release another BFME-type game, perhaps Hobbit related to co-incide with the release of the final film.
