MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments Has anyone ever read any Joe R. Lansdale here?

I've been giving this book - Black Hat Jack - the eye.

I've never read anything by Lansdale but the subject matter is so rare that I'm SUPER intrigued.

But I have no clue as to his writing style or if I;d even like any of his work.

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments I've read a short story or two, and liked them from what I remember. Of course he's on my TBR.

That book looks interesting..

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I picked up one of his books on a whim the other day, but I've never read anything of his yet.

Doesn't it?! I've been trying to track down some of the non-special print versions of the book/stories(?) but I can't locate so far.

I am glad to hear you've read and enjoyed some. It makes the thought of a purchase a lot less risky.

Dan Schwent (akagunslinger) I've read 40 of his books. He's definitely in my top 5.

Laurel Mrs J, I'm eyeing up the same book! I've read, and loved, a number of his novellas. Personally, I love his style. It seems to be Americana with a moody genre twist? I have a few reviews you could peruse...

Yes please!

I've been going through the site with a fine-tooth comb and found this: Hide and Horns by Joe R. Lansdale. It's starring the same character as the book.

I've been reading it - between invoices at work, lol - and so far I really like the voice and the style of writing.

I can see how it might not work for all reading moods...but so far very interesting!

But I've not noticed any fantasy/magic as yet.

I can't wait to read some reviews!

Looks like that's a pre-order, not available yet..

Laurel With Subterranean, you often have to pre-order as it sells out well before release.

Right. Otherwise, people will gouge you for them in the second hand market.

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I'm gonna buy it! I finished the story and - while the numerous racial epithets were quite shocking - it read as very true to the time period.

Took me a while to get into the writing as I've never been a big fan of "slang" (<-- wrong word but I can't think of the right one) but the writing really flowed for me.

The other thing I enjoyed was the fact that story was very exciting but there was no fantasy. Its hard for me to get into pure Westerns, normally. (I say normally cause I don't think the Longarm glomming I did in elementary counts, lol)

message 14: by Dan (new)

Dan Schwent (akagunslinger) I just read on the Facebook this morning that Lansdale's got a Black Hat Jack novel coming out from Mullholland this year.

He mentioned the one from Mullholland being particularly long so I don't think so.
