Kassandra | -1 comments Liz, Patricia Cornwell is one of my favourite authors! I'm happy to see someone else working their way through her collected works.

message 11: by Liz (new)

Liz Hunt | 92 comments I read hem ages ago but I haven't read port mortuary or red mist and it had been do long I thought it safer to re-read than start and run the risk of not having a clue what's happening

message 12: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments I liked Red Mist. The only book that I haven't like of hers was At Risk. I found that to be very dull, and not just because Scarpetta was absent.

message 13: by Liz (new)

Liz Hunt | 92 comments Yeah I started it but didn't finish it. The other series was good but I haven't kept it. Scarpetta is too good

Overbooked ✎ (kiwi_fruit) | 800 comments Hi Liz, well done on your challenge. Can I ask you how did you find Bleak house? and, if you read any other of Dickens's works, how does it compare?

i found bleak house hard work. Even david copperfield was easier than that. enjoyed a tale of two cities and great expectations. if i hadnt seen the mini series of bleak house i would have struggled more

Overbooked ✎ (kiwi_fruit) | 800 comments Thanks Liz, I liked tale of two cities too, looks like I will pass Dickens' other novels for the moment.
Loved Ender's game BTW, but even more Speaker for the dead, the following novels were not at the same level imo. I hope you liked it

I adored both Enders Game and Speaker of the Dead. I haven't managed to finish the series though...

message 23: by Liz (new)

Liz Hunt | 92 comments Enders game was brilliant. Not what I expected. Loved it. Will eventually check out the others in the series

message 24: by Josh (new)

Josh | 20 comments Speaker for the Dead was an interesting yarn. It took the character in a completely unexpected direction. Completely unexpected and I loved the outcome. I've got to say though that Xenocide (No. 3 in the Ender Quartet) was a slog. It had some interesting revelations at the end, but getting there meant reading a whole story about an Asian girl with a cleanliness complex and debasing herself a lot. It never ended....

message 25: by Liz (new)

Liz Hunt | 92 comments Hmmm!! There's always one isn't there lol

message 26: by Josh (new)

Josh | 20 comments It was like Groundhog's Day - The Book!

message 30: by Liz (new)

Liz Hunt | 92 comments I thought it was fantastic. A different insight into that time period in that particularly volatile place. I loved the characters especially the psychotic ms hessy

Kassandra | -1 comments Liz, what did you think of Sophie's World?

message 36: by Liz (new)

Liz Hunt | 92 comments I liked it a lot. I had no idea what to expect but the overview on the history of philosophy and how it fits into society was fascinating to the point of studying it in depth.

Sophie and the professor were interesting characters and Sophie's relationship with her mother was very surreal. I guess that's why the ending made sense. The relationships between the characters were odd. Still didn't expect that ending though

What did u think?

message 42: by Liz (new)

Liz Hunt | 92 comments The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Always wanted to read these and they have been referenced so much in tv and film i thought it was about time.

enjoyed quite a lot and easy to read, although tom sayer was easier than huck only because the writer wrote in the drawling lang of the time in huck and i had to concentrate more
