Shadowdenizen | 14 comments So, thanks to my friendly local comics store, and some judicious culling through online book-sellers and ebook sites, I've been able to collect a fair amount of Trek fic that I've been wanting to read.

Amongst other things, I've snagged most of the DS9 Relaunch stuff up to "The Fall" series, all 10 volumes of "Strange New Worlds", the "Myriad Universes" trio, the "Mirror Universe" book, the "IKS Gorkon" quartet, and a bunch of anthology titles ("Tales from the Dominion War", "Procopehcy and Change", and "Distant Shores", and "The Amazings Stories" collection.).

I guess my question is..

Of TOS and TNG, which titles are worth picking up and would people recommend? (I've read "The Battel of Betzed" and "Q-Continuum" from TNG, btu haven't really looked beyond that yet.)

Travis (travishiltz) TOS:
Home is the Hunter
Case of the Colonists Corpse
Enterprise
The novelizations of all the movies are pretty good too.

TNG:
Q in Law
Vendetta
Strikezone
Q Squared

I've seen this one floating around, but wasn't sure what to make of it. So it's worth the purchase/read?

I've read the Q-trilogy from TNG line and liked it, even though I find Q hit-or-miss. Hadn't heard of "Q-in-Law"... I'll have to check it out!

Thanks!
(And keep the reccs coming!) :)

Travis (travishiltz) I'm a big Q fan ( my only attempt at Trek fan fiction features him), so have tracked down all the Q based books.
Q in law is a fun romp of a book.

Colonists Corpse is fun as it reads like both old school Trek and an old school mystery TV show.

Shadowdenizen | 14 comments Sold on both. :)

My local Comic Shop just received a BOOKCASE full of old Trek novels, and he's priced them QUITE reasonably. (They might have Q-in-Law, but not sure about the Corpse one; isn't that fairly new? Or am I thinking of something else?)

Prior to my posting here, awhile ago somone IRL recced "TNG/X-Men" and I caved to the pressure (It was $4!) and snagged it, and MAN was it awful....

Travis (travishiltz) Are you talking about the Trek/X-men novel?
They did a comic mini-series and a prose novel.
The novel was pretty painful ( aside from a nice epilogue featuring Q and the Watcher).
It was so bad I never tracked down the comic.

At one time, I had a Top 10 for TOS, let's see how many I can recall:
How much for just the planet? / John M. Ford
Dreadnought! and Battlestations! (Diane Carey, I think)
Final Reflection / John M. Ford
My enemy, my ally and The Romulan Way / Diane Duane

OK, that's six. There are 3 more following the Duane Rihannsu series, and they were good, they just didn't light my fire the way the first two did.

Shadowdenizen | 14 comments I tend to be more forgiving of comic-crossovers than prose novels.

The X-Men/Trek novel was wretched. The comic was also bad, but not QUITE as bad.

I'll check out the rest you listed, too, Lee.

Travis (travishiltz) Any Trek by Diane Duane is worth a look.

and Diane Carey did write Dreadnought. Her books are pretty good too.
Didn't she also write the one about Kirk's dad, when he was chief of security on the Enterprise?

Shadowdenizen | 14 comments I've been steadily adding to my Trek collection (again, thanks to the influx of books at my FLGS. [My taste tends to run towards DS9/Voyager more than TOS/TNG or ENT.

The "Voyager" and "Deep Space Nine" numbered volumes range from good to terrible. (I'm thru Volume 9 of the Voyager ones, and VOlume 14 of the Deep Space Nine ones.)

I'm liking both the DS9 and Voyager "Relaunch stuff".

The best stuff I found was the complete "Strange New Worlds" set, the 3-Volume "Myriad Universe" set, and the "Mirror Universe" stuff.

Also working through IKS Gorkon stuff, and the collections of Corps of Engineers. (I was only able to find the first 6 volumes thus far; I may have to resort to digital for the rest.)

And I'm liking "Mosaic", which is the biography of Captain Janeway.

Travis (travishiltz) Are the Gorkon books any good?
I like the idea of stories about a Klingon ship, but haven't had a chance to track any down.

Shadowdenizen | 14 comments Did you see the DS9 episode set aboard a Kilingon ship? It's like that. :)

It's both familiar, since it's set on a starship, but refrshing different at the same time.

So, I didn't realize but after the first 3 books, they changed the series to "The Klingon Empire" for the 4th and final book....
