I guess in some ways it can also be a "guilty pleasure" read.

I am trying to think of a couple of books that I read that fit this category - I know I have a couple.

So do you have any books that fit this category???

Ha! I was just thinking about those VC Andrews books the other day. I read them as a pre-teen & teenager and I read every one of them I could get my hot little hands on. If my parents only knew what I was reading about!! LOL

Hmmm....can't think of any other 'bad' books that I seek out right now.

When I was in junior high (back in the day - do they even call schools junior high anymore) they did not have YA books like they do know so it was the children's section or the adult section - and my parents did not mind what I read as long as I was reading. So remember reading The Carpetbaggers by Harold Robbins and was enjoying so much I brought it to school to read at break time and the teacher could me reading it and told me I could not read that book on school time.

Now I wonder what I saw in that book and others like it.

I was a senior in high school when someone gave me a copy of G-Spot: An Urban Erotic Tale by Noire. OH MY GOSH!!! I was hooked on Urban Literature for a while after that. LOL

I just read the blog you linked. It had me laughing! But to answer in the same way as the blog, I'd definitely have to say most of the street lit books i used to LOVE! I don't know, maybe it was the beginner reader in me but I would ONLY read street lit. My favorite among them all was Hood Rat! Smh. My issue isn't the genre in its self but how terribly written they typically are, improper English, typos all through the books, contradictions, weak and cliche plotlines. My goodness you couldn't pay me to read a street lit book again lol. Though I will say Sista Souljah did very well with The Coldest Winter Ever.

Zane's Sex ChroniclesThe first one I bought because I had heard about what might lay beyond the covers... Actually, it does make the less experienced woman swoon. But as you begin to have your own experiences, you start to feel they all have a theme and you can tell they came from the same author. I have never been brave enough tobegina diary and capture the details to practice for writing scenes later... They can get monotonous

I'll agree about Zane.

As much as I hate to say it, Johnnie Cochran's A Lawyer's Life was a poorly written book. It seemed as if it hadn't been proofread or edited. I got very annoyed while reading it because it was came off as a rambling stream of thought. However, I finished it and appreciate it because of the content. It's the tale of one of our greatest heroes, and champion of the little people.

But it still could've been written much better.
