Danielle (leaningsun) | 27 comments I'm new to Persephone and am interested in exploring. I am excited to have found this group. I recently picked up Miss Pettigrew as it seems to be the only readily available Persephone in NC book stores. I'll begin my rounds at used shops soon. Hope you don't mind if I tag along!

Odette | 8 comments Hi All,
I just found this post about a "Persephone Reading Week Challenge" some bloggers are participating in. I thought you might find it interesting:

Fun! That's so exciting there are so many Persephone fans out there. Thanks for sharing, Odette!

Danielle (leaningsun) | 27 comments It looks like a lot of nice folks are going to participate. I've set 2 books for myself.
I blogged about it here http://leaningtowardthesun.wordpress....

Also almost finished with Consequences (love this one!)

Odette | 8 comments I read The Home Maker and The Fortnight in September last week & loved them. The latter is a particularly good summer book since almost all of it takes place during a family's seaside vacation.

Lee (leekat) Hi everyone,

I've just joined the group and wanted to say I'm excited about reading more Persephone books. I've read about five so far and just happen to have the Miss Buncle book home from the library now. I look forward to reading it with the group.

Welcome to the group, Lee! I'm sure you'll find, as we have, that Persephone has a great catalog of books. We're just finishing Little Boy Lost, and we'll be reading Miss Buncle's Book next--feel free to start a discussion thread under the Miss Buncle folder anytime during October. We're not on a strict schedule--we usually wrap up the discussion at the end of that month (or the beginning of the next month). Also, I will be sending out a poll soon for the next couple of book choices!

message 9: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) Thanks for the welcome Gina. If I start reading Miss Buncle and want to chat, I will be happy to start a thread if one doesn't already exist.
I love polls so I can't wait to see what's next. I would love to able to read the whole catalogue.
I'm glad you're not on a strict schedule here because I'm fairly involved with two other monthly group reads!

message 11: by Lee (new)

Lee (leekat) Well, I only own one so far, Someone at a Distance and it has a beautiful cover. I think I'm about to order my first directly from Persephone for another group read, Yipeee!!! The others I've borrowed from the library.

Danielle (leaningsun) | 27 comments Just got this email from Persephone (how dare they tempt me :-)

8th February 2010
Dear Persephone Reader,
It is Valentine's Day on Sunday. For those of you who have been ignoring it: if you order a book online before midnight tomorrow (Tuesday) we will wrap it free of charge and send it with a Valentine's Day message. Please do not tick the gift-wrapping option, but instead write in the Additional Information box 'Valentine's Day Offer'.
The books we suggest as gifts are: No. 35 Greenery Street, No. 67 The Fortnight in September, No. 21 Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, No. 29 The Making of a Marchioness, No. 81 Miss Buncle s Book and No. 62 How to Run your Home without Help.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Best wishes,
from all at Persephone Books

Danielle (leaningsun) | 27 comments An email from Persephone:
8th March 2010
Dear Persephone Reader,
It is Mothering Sunday this weekend.
If you order two Persephone Classics by midnight on Wednesday, we will send you a third Classic of your choice free of charge. Please note that the offer does not apply to the grey books.
When ordering online you should only pay for two books, and then write in the Additional Information box: Mothering Sunday Offer and the title of the third Classic you would like. In the same box please let us know whether the books are going to you or whether they should be sent directly to your mother with a card, and if so what the card should say.
(Apologies to readers in North America, where Mothering Sunday is in May: however this does not stop you from taking advantage of our special offer well in advance!)
Best wishes,
from all at Persephone Books

Kat Warren | 3 comments I'm semi-new to GoodReads (joined a year or more ago but only recently started browsing/participating) so forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this. My question is: Where can I find updated lists of new title releases available in the U.S.?

message 15: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (leaningsun) | 27 comments I think most of the classics are now available in the US. I'm starting to see them pop up in bookstores around me especially at my local indie.

message 16: by Heather (new)

Heather | 11 comments I know that Barnes & Noble carries all of the classic Persephones. I haven't seen any of the dovegreys in U.S. bookstores but you can order most of them from Powell's Books online.

message 17: by Deb (last edited Mar 24, 2010 02:11PM) (new)

Deb | 6 comments The ten classics are available at Barnes & Noble. I order the dove grey Persephone books from The Book Depository in the UK. Great prices, no minimum order and free shipping to anywhere in the world. I live in Minnesota and it takes about a week to get them.
And whoever said, they're addictive is so right!! I can't stop buying them.
My only complaint is if you don't purchase them directly from Persephone, you don't get a matching bookmark which I would so love.
If any of you friends from across the pond would ever purchase some bookmarks for me, I'd be so grateful. Will send money first, of course!
Some day I'll make a trip abroad to Lamb's Conduit Street!

message 18: by Kat (new)

Kat Warren | 3 comments I'm looking primarily for a list of titles available in the U.S. Of course the Persephone web site has the complete list of all titles but, for the moment, I'm interested in U.S. availability so I can help promote those titles via my two tweets: New_Books and FinestKindBks.

message 19: by Deb (new)

Deb | 6 comments They have 10 classics that I believe they print for distribution in the US. I've found them at B & N. They are:
The World That was Ours
Kitchen Essays
Mariana
Saplings
Someone at a Distance
Cheerful Weather for the Wedding
Good Evening Mrs. Craven: The Wartime Stories of Mollie Panter-Downes
The Making of a Marchioness
Miss Pettigrew lives for a Day
Little Boy Lost

They don't have the dove grey covers but they have beautiful four-color artwork on the cover.
I believe she has two more slated for publication.
Hope that helps!

Laura (digifish_books) | 41 comments I've never seen Persephones at any bookstore where I live in Australia. All the Persephones I own I've bought from the Book Depository. I agree with Deb, no matching bookmark is a disappointment, but only a minor one for me.

Kat Warren | 3 comments I don't run into Persephones at my indie bookstores in the San Francisco Bay Area. I orden 'em online.
